sonicking (Il y a 1 an) #5919422Buddy, happy new year. Do you build Gundams? I don't. But I am tempted by this (ITEM #368558). The frame is already built and it appears to be metal! The exterior is already painted. You just need to assemble it. I used to build SD Gundams when I was a little kid. So I can do the assembling, but the final outcome is iffy. What do you think?

Happy New Year to you too! I hope your trip went well if you decided to take one! I do build Gundams sometimes. I mostly stick to the Master Grade 1/100 scale ones since I feel they are the easiest and most sturdy to assemble. Plus they look the best because they have internal frames. And yeah I saw this Barbatos Gundam and thought about maybe getting it BUT the price tag for it is REALLY high! Most MG model kits come at around 4,000 yen. For some reason this one costs 15,000-17,000 yen. That's the price of a Metal Build! I honestly don't know why it costs so much but for something you have to assemble yourself and being so small I couldn't justify the purchase (unless someone out there knows more about this than I do). I know this is suppose to be one of Bandai's new model kit lines of "High Resolution". Not entirely sure what the gimmick behind them is exactly but for the price they are asking there better be something special about it. I"m not sure if the internal frame is all pre-built or die-cast or what. You might want to do a bit of searching around and/or ask on the MFC page of this figure.

However, even if the frame comes pre-assembled you will have to be the one to clip, shave, and sand down the extra pieces from the "Runners" (the plastic pieces that hold the additional parts in it). If you aren't a very experienced model builder and don't know how to do it properly and/or make mistakes the final product could end up not looking as good as a Metal Build for the price of a Metal Build. Get what I mean? Then again if you are very talented and can do a fantastic job you could always make it look BETTER than a Metal Build as well. The thing about Model Kits is that IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOU! LOL So if you are confident that you can make it look great when it's done then go for it! If you know you're NOT a model kit builder or artist...then maybe not.

Honestly, for the price they are asking I'd RATHER wait for a Metal Build version of it to come out instead for around that same price. That's basically why I passed on it myself. I'm ok spending 4,000 yen on model kits for certain Gundams (i.e. Infinite Justice Gundam) and assembling them myself because they are lower in price. So even if that Gundam does eventually get a Metal Composite or Metal Build release version then I won't feel so bad about spending a lower amount to have owned the MG version of it BEFORE the more expensive Metal version wasn't available to the collector market.

sonicking (Il y a 2 ans) #5381470Hey! CDJapan shipped out my Strike Freedom from last week's restock. But guess what? CDJapan is screwing over people in Hong Kong. In the HK forum, members are complaining that CDJ upped the shipping cost (the same thing they did to me before). Shipping to Hong Kong via EMS is now 5100yen, via SAL is 3990yen. It seems that I am "lucky" this time around. My point is...CDJapan is not my preferred vendor.

IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! IT'S FINALLY HERE!!! IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!! Strike Freedom will look AMAZING with my Destiny Gundam Heine Custom in GLORIOUS DUEL POSING COMBAT!!!

Guess if you're in HK you're screwed with shipment fees! Which sort of doesn't make any sense considering Japan and China are on the same side of the world? But shipping to the US would cost less? I don't get it. Maybe they just hate China LOL (which I think they really do >.>). I honestly don't know much about CDJapan since this is the first time I've purchased from them. My Strike Freedom has FINALLY shown up it's entered the US on December 14 and today it showed up that it's in the state of FL. So hopefully I should get it either today or tomorrow! CAN'T WAIT!!

I'll keep my judgment on CDJapan until I've made more purchases from them. So far my favorite online hobby stores that I buy mostly from are AmiAmi and Mandarake. I've probably spent like $10,000 USD easy if not more at AmiAmi this past year >.>. Mandarake maybe like $2,000 USD. I also like to purchase a lot on eBay as well for certain items if the price is right. But yeah those are my main purchasing places. I occasionally buy from Nin-Nin-Games too as sometimes they have good prices and they give good customer service too but not very often since they tend to have a bad habit of higher MSRP prices than other online stores. They're still not bad though.

sonicking (Il y a 2 ans) #5310023 BTW, what makes it "Hong Kong"? Is it because they fought in Hong Kong? Or was it sold in Hong Kong?

Oh and I don't think I ever answered this question. I believe they call it the Hong Kong Night version because it was released as a limited exclusive at Tamashii Nations 2009 Hong Kong showcase. The Psycho Gundam itself was never ACTUALLY in Hong Kong in the anime lol. Well at least not that I'm aware of =P

sonicking (Il y a 2 ans) #5310112I have the normal one, which cost me only $90. I am happy with it. But could you explain what this "A" or "B" grade means? I always buy "new". But I guess it is ok if the inner box is sealed.

Yeah the normal one is a lot cheaper but the Limited Edition one looks MUCH BETTER. It comes with a reflective glossy paint mirror finish ALL OVER and it looks absolutely FANTASTIC! If was I going to own a version of the Psycho Gundam, to me this was the best one!

And different shops have different grades. At Jungle of Japan they have 3 grades. Sealed - Completely sealed outer package. A Grade - The other package has been opened but the inner package for the figure remains sealed (so it's basically a sealed figure). B Grade - Means pre-owned and previously put on display. May have slight wear on the figure (from most of my experience the wear is very minimal). If I can manage to find a figure in B grade for a lot cheaper I get the B grade versions because 99% of the time they come flawless anyways (in my experience) and since I plan to take the figure out of the box to display it regardless there's no point in buying that's sealed for a higher price. If you buy from AmiAmi they also have as similar figure grading system as well. S - Sealed /A+/A-/B+/B-/C. Everywhere is different.

sonicking (Il y a 2 ans) #5310023Sh*t! That's great! Was it new and how much did you pay for it?
BTW, what makes it "Hong Kong"? Is it because they fought in Hong Kong? Or was it sold in Hong Kong?

It wasn't sealed new but it came B grade which was almost Like New. It came more or less flawless except one of the extra fists came slightly scratched but it doesn't bother me considering it cost me A LOT less than normal plus I don't plan to use that fist accessory anyways.

I got if for $280 USD + handling fee and EMS shipping cost. I paid a total of $335 USD for it. It would of cost me like $15 USD less but I wanted EMS because I didn't want to wait to get him!!! But this is a pretty good price considering he's really hard rare to find and he normally sells for like $450-$600. I"m very happy with the purchase! He's looks AMAZING!

If you are interested in getting him the Jungle still has 1 more copy of it left. It was slightly more expensive than the one I bought like an extra $50 or so but this one the inner figure comes new and sealed. I didn't mind getting mine NOT sealed since I planned to display it anyways. jungle-scs.co.j...

sonicking (Il y a 2 ans) #5308753No, US sellers get the same items at least one month later. [I usually buy all my Saint Seiya from US sellers, so I know this well.] But some US sellers take 2 months later. From what I have seen, many US sellers list that the release date for Strike Freedom is after X'mas. So this means we are talking about after new year. So a February release date is not that bad.
Mine will come after X'mas, which is fine. I am going to Costa Rica for a week for X'mas anyway~~~

Oh alright. Well I'm fine waiting patiently until February. I've got PLENTY of other orders I need to pay for anyways until then. So it's all good!

Costa Rica huh? Sounds like fun! What the heck is a Hong Kong guy going to a place like Costa Rica? lol You like the latino life? I"m actually Hispanic my family is from Panama and Puerto Rico. I've not gone to them in YEARS though to visit those areas. Maybe one day I'll go check them out again.
