MAL was hacked.. what.Commentaires • MAL was hacked.. what.

    MAL is back up. They seem to have issues with hacks but this DDoS seems more personal. I honestly cannot see why anyone would hack a site like MAL or attack it. Its a great site but its true purpose is to just keep track of your anime and manga and learn more and read reviews.

    It's seems to me that it happens by the past. (really long time ago)
    But MAL is down really frequently xD.. the users who are used to that website should know about this :p
    Also we can talk with the staff or know what happen on their twitter.

    But MAL will still be MAL and still have down xD

    I am now re-watching animes becasue I cannot input all my comments into MAL .. I like to writte coments in a more section when I finish a new anime. And since I like to do it when its fresh in my mind well I decided to rewatch some of my favorite ones.Hope the site comes back soon.

    PewPewK (Il y a 5 ans) #1713843Let me just go on record saying that a DDoS attack is not "hacking." The word hacking implies that they're doing something to compromise the system and gain access to sensitive data or systems. A direct denial of service attack is... well... just that. It's an attack designed to take a website offline, but that's not the equivalent of hacking a site. When the PSN was compromised and sensitive user information was stolen, THAT was a hack. A DDoS is an annoyance, but nothing more than that.
    Yeah, the first reaction everyone had was that the site was hacked, but then everyone found out it was just a DDoS. That's why the title said hack, sorry if it bothers you that much.

    I definitely noticed the site dropping as it happened when I completed an anime I mini-marathon'd and went to happily update my list. How quick that happiness turned to annoyance. Thankfully, the MAL mods worked quickly to bring it back up.

    maraiatori (Il y a 5 ans) #1712264Yeah, the popular discussions I join are filled with trolls and assholes most of the time, so I try to avoid the forums. However MAL helps me organize my anime list, so that's pretty much the only reason I'm still using it ^^;

    I love MAL; makes it so easy to keep track of my lists and get anime info and news. It seems I haven't lurked enough? I'm really curious as I haven't seen more trolls and elitists than average, where exactly are they all at? Just in popular anime forums?

    I was thinking they probably got hacked again.This same guy hacked MAL a few weeks ago changing the names of animes,deleting their genres and changing the descriptions.

    Mods have confirmed that the lists are fine, which probably means that the site will be back on this evening or Friday, not later I'm assuming.

    I only use MAL to keep track of my anime too.I've only posted on the forums twice and both were posts were my thoughts on an anime but I never stick around.Every time I look at a forum it's 80% people with a bad attitude or people who think they're better than you chatting in a thread.They're way too many immature people on there for me to want to conversate with anyone.It's a great place to keep track of your anime but the community is just terrible.

    I just imported my list to this site in the event of MAL going down again hummingbird.me/ it's a pretty good alternative, though, it only supports anime lists not manga >.<
