Today we'll be doing a review of Skytube's Inia Sestina. This is a swimsuit figure, so most of the shots in this review could be considered mildly NSFW. Proceed accordingly.

About the character:
Inia Sestina is a character from Muv-Luv Total Eclipse. She is a Soviet test pilot and her co-pilot is Cryska Barchenowa (MFC encylopedia link: ENCYCLOPEDIA #5400 ), the two of them being dubbed the "Scarlet Twins". In an early episode, she meets the series' main character Yuuya, and invites him to meet her teddy bear Misha, resulting in some friction with her older "sister" Cryska.

Honestly, I never got too much farther than that into the Total Eclipse anime. Rather, there were a number of reasons I decided to add Inia to my collection, independent of the source material, so let's proceed to the review.

Packaging----------7/10

The front of the box features a large window, and the Total Eclipse logo.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876035.jpeg

The sides of the box are pretty plain.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876036.jpeg

The back of the box features two shots of Inia.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876037.jpeg

It's not the most eye-popping box design, but it got her to me safe and sound. Her box measures 30 by 22 by 17 cm, and box and figure weigh in at around 500 grams. Factor in a good size shipping box and packing, and shipping will run a little bit more than the average 1/7 or 1/8 scale figure.

Posing----------8.5/10

Her pose is interesting, featuring Inia in a swimsuit holding on to her trusty rifle. In the world of Total Eclipse, humanity is facing extermination by hostile aliens and so I suppose that even when a pilot gets a little bit of time for rest and relaxation, it never hurts to be prepared for anything.

Let's do a tour around the figure.

Of course, one of the more notable features of this figure is Inia's huge rifle. The rifle is a PTRS-41. The PTRS-41 is a semiautomatic anti-tank rifle that was manufactured by the Soviet Union beginning in 1941, and they're apparently still in service, so it's reasonable to think that Inia might have one. According to Wikipedia, they're 83 inches in length; when I measured this one, it measures right about 9 3/4 inches, so it falls well short of Inia's 1/7 scale. For the military buffs out there, this could be a negative. Apparently these rifles can pierce armor at 100 yards, so presumably they must be effective against the invading Beta as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876040.jpeg

Overall, the detail on the rifle is good. For example, the screw heads and the detail on the bolt are nice touches. It looks like the real deal.

Sculpting----------8/10
Painting-----------9/10

Overall, Skytube did a fine job, with just a few minor flaws. Here we see Inia's face and torso. I think her facial expression is adorable, and there's just the right amount of blush on her cheeks. In addition, her skin tone is well done. She is very fair-skinned, but she does have a little bit of color and so she looks nice and healthy.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876054.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876055.jpeg

Here we see a closer view of her torso. As is often the case with swimsuit figures, her bikini seems to be about one size too small. There's also some underboob for those who enjoy that. Actually, all sorts of sculpting issues can lurk in this area, but generally Inia is free of such problems.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876056.jpeg

A shot of Inia's lower torso. I think she has a very nice figure. She has a narrow waist, but her waist-to-hip ratio is not outrageously small. Also, you can see how her bottom kind of pinches into the flesh around her hips.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876057.jpeg

Below, we see one of the few really noticeable flaws on the figure. There is a little nick in the side of her torso and you can see a little bit of glue where her bikini bottom transitions into the front of her thigh.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876058.jpeg

Another distinctive feature of the figure is Inia's lilac hair. Viewed from the top, you can see the usual seam line where the front of her hair connects.

Also, I hadn't even noticed this until I started looking at these photos, but there is a small flaw in her bangs. At first, I thought it was dust or lint, but it is in fact a flaw in the finish. And, I never really paid too much attention to the Total Eclipse anime, but I assume the clips in her hair are some sort of neural interface a la Evangelion.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876059.jpeg

A profile shot of Inia. The seam in her hair is quite noticeable from this angle.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876060.jpeg

Here, we see her hair viewed from the back. Inia has very long hair, and the sculpt is quite good. With hair this long, you might expect it to be very clumpy or for it to look like a collection of tentacles, but it looks like she's in the middle of turning around and tossing her hair. So, I have to say that her hair is nicely done. Be advised, however, all that hair occupies a lot of space. At its widest point, her hair spans 7 inches (18 cm) in width. Thus, if you have limited space, displaying her on a crowded shelf could be a challenge.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876061.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876062.jpeg

Here is a shot of her hand. You can see the fingers have some definition and the nails are detailed.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876063.jpeg

This might be picky, but on her left hand, her pinky is at a rather odd angle relative to the rest of her fingers. I'm guessing that your hand would cramp really fast like that. You can also see some wayward paint on her ring finger, and a mold line on her thumb.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876064.jpeg

Here, you can see that the transition from her neck to her jawline is maybe not as smooth as it could be.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876065.jpeg

Here, you can see that her feet and toes are nicely detailed. In addition, you see some detail on her ankles. That's a small detail that seems to go overlooked quite often.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876066.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876067.jpeg

Her calves are also nicely shaped.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876068.jpeg

A low-angle view of Inia, which is hard to really do because of her hair. The tie on her top is nicely sculpted, and you see that she has some very nice curves.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876069.jpeg

One thing I have noticed is that Inia looks better displayed from certain angles.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876070.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876071.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876072.jpeg

From the shots above, I believe Inia looks best when displayed slightly below eye-level.

Overall, the painting on the figure is very good (admittedly, there's not a lot that could really go wrong!), and despite a couple of small flaws, the sculpt is well-executed. Her outfit, being a plain white bikini, is quite simple but I don't necessarily view that as a negative.

Base----------6/10

Here, we see Inia's base, and this brings up a major issue with the figure. The U-shaped "corral" on the base is meant to keep the rifle secure, but unfortunately it doesn't do a very good job. When the figure is moved, the length of the rifle (and the fact that Inia isn't holding it very tightly) makes it tend to fall forward easily. That U-shaped corral will only prevent the rifle from moving laterally, and so it will fall forward very easily (and it did so about a dozen times when I was taking these photos!). I think a better design would have been to have a peg attach the end of the rifle to the base for stability's sake.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876073.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876074.jpeg

Her base is quite large for a 1/7 scale figure, slightly over 5 inches (approximately 13 cm) in diameter. This further adds to the footprint of the figure. Is the base so bad that it ruins the figure? Not hardly, but it certainly could have been done much better.

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------8.5/10

I didn't originally buy her new, but when I found her on AmiAmi's preowned section, I could no longer resist. With her cute expression and fair skin, Inia scores a lot of moe points. Pair that with her distinctive lilac hair and that huge rifle, and you'll have a figure that really stands out on your shelf. Given the quality of the overall finish, I am very happy to have her in my collection.

Of the three Inias that are currently out there, alas, she seems to be the least popular based on the number of MFC'ers who own her, trailing behind Kotobukiya's ITEM #127079 "strengthening equipment" (plugsuit?) version, and Koto's take on Inia in a swimsuit ITEM #96608 . It's a shame she's not been more popular, as she really is well done.

Let's wrap up the review with some shots of Inia with some other figures to get a feel for her scale.

Inia with some of my favorite girls-with-guns.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876091.jpeg

Tessa, Triela, and Saya are all 1/8, and Maia Mizuki is 1/6. You can see that Inia is somewhere in the middle scale-wise. I measure her at just over 8 inches (20 cm) in height, and at 1/7 scale, that would make her about 4'8" in height. I couldn't find her canon height anywhere, but she seems to be at the smaller end of 1/7 scale.

Inia and Sanya Litvyak. Russians can be just as moe as everyone else. Further, both Inia and Sanya presumably have similar weapon-to-body mass ratios.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/12/11/876092.jpeg

Inia and Lynette Bishop. Inia's PTRS-41 and Lynette's Boys' anti-tank rifle are of similar vintage. They're both effective at long range as well.

Availability (as of this writing)

Sold out new, not too hard to find secondhand.

She seems to show up with some frequency on Mandarake, AmiAmi and various other secondhand channels. I'd say you ought to be able to find one for about 4000-5000 yen. Quite a bargain, if you ask me.

This was one of those figures where I didn't really care for the source material, but the concept of the figure was just too good to pass up. Plus, she's just so cute!

KraxIl y a 6 ans#2020894Viper-san, my Inia arrived today. It's all thanks to this review that gave me the last push to get her (a Muv-Luv fanatic though) =P.. She's lovely, just the base doesn't seem to fit perfectly. Inia's legs need to be stretched a bit =.=

Congratulations on finding her. I can't recall if I had that particular issue with the base, but give how it doesn't support her rifle too well, it wouldn't surprise me...

Oh god, as I'm a fanatic of Muv-Luv alternative figures and moreover a Inia and Cryska fanboy. I only need the Inia from Skytube and GSC's Nendo to complete my collection of her. My first was actually Koto's santarina Cryska. Thanks again for a great review mate, kinda regret I didn't PO her, now it's kinda hard to find it T_T

Same here. ;) Without the rifle I think she would be quite a plain bikini babe!

The rifle and her posing together with it makes her the most interesting. :)

victorviperIl y a 6 ans#1884400Inia is kind of an interesting choice for a first scaled figure. What was the hook that made you take the plunge and choose her for your first scale?
It must be her beautiful purple hair and her innocent looking face. I love purple hair. :x

When I started to collect anime goods, there're many characters I want to get first such as Saber but they're sold out everywhere >__< (back then I have not joined mfc yet).
So when I was surfing around hobby search, I saw Inia. Bikini with a rifle? Cool! Not to mention her body is well sculpted, too. I don't even know who she is but I got the feeling that I must have her in my collection. So I ordered her then go watch Muv-luv Eclipse until she arrived. XD

And I know my eyes never betray me :D

FuyumiIl y a 6 ans#1884160I bought her from Hobby Search. She's my very first scale figure :x. Although I accidently broke the tip of that rifle (about 5cm) but she's fine with holding the rest lol. People won't notice the rifle is broken until I told them. XD
