PM EVA-Mark.09 Vessel of Adams ver.PM EVA-Mark.09 Vessel of Adams ver.

Contains some spoilers for Rebuild of Evangelion 3.33/Q, you have been warned.

I’d like to bring everyone’s attention to a prize figure today, EVA-Mark.09 from Rebuild of Evangelion 3.33/Q. This is specifically its “awakened” Vessel of Adams form from the end of the film. (Speculation on the meaning of this is ongoing, as its existence, particularly the PLURAL “Adams,” means that the way the soul of Adam is sequestered in Rebuild is radically different from NGE.)

Being a prize figure, it was not expensive at all, so when I saw the one picture of it I immediately bought it. Right now it’s the only figure of the Vessel of Adams form; all other figures of Mark.09 are its normal form. I don’t think there are likely to be others, since the revoltech line seems through with the Q Evas and other companies don’t make as high a variety of Evas, but I could be wrong. Now that we have a theatrical release window for Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 :|| (December 2015) the pace of Eva merchandise might pick up more aggressively and since all of it recently has been from Q, it wouldn’t be out of the question.

For a prize figure it has a lot of details and the paintwork is great, only a couple minor flaws, none of which bother me, and I didn't even notice them until I looked for them.

The colors stand out well, but you will want to make sure you don’t have a dark background behind Mark.09 or it will disappear. The scythe handle is a bit thicker and feels sturdier than the scythe that comes with revoltech Mark.09, which I fear breaking every time I touch. The scythe comes in two pieces with the lower end being separate to allow the handle to be easily slid into the Eva’s hand. It’s a tight fit and it won’t fall out.

The figure has a smooth matte finish. Rebuild Evas usually have a glossy finish but in NGE the Evas often did not, so I don’t think the surface finish is an especially important detail. I'm used to a shiny finish because revoltechs have one, but it seems it varies between figure lines.

The base is fairly plain and feels supportive and evenly flat. I wish it took up a little less space, but what can you do. To my knowledge, the bases of all PM Evas are this 4 hexagon shape. The Eva has pegs in its feet and is not screwed into the base. Overall the figure feels very sturdy and durable when handled.

Let’s talk about size for a minute. This figure is 20 cm tall. In the original series, the height of the Evas was incredibly inconsistent; it was officially given as 40 m and appears this height when in the NERV hangar, but appeared up to 200 m for some scenes in End of Evangelion. (Due to this, it is no accident that most figures of the Evas themselves don’t attempt to designate them with a scale.)

In Rebuild of Evangelion, the height is officially given as 80 m (shown in above chart) and is actually consistent as the Evas are computer models. If we take that as accurate, that puts this figure neatly at 1/400 scale. (If you’re curious, any revoltech Q Eva is 16.5 cm, which makes them all 1/485 scale.) I assume all PM Evas fit this general scale, although I have no others to compare mine with.

I like how it looks with this tiny Rei, though her white base does stand out a bit noticeably against its black one.

The pilot juxtaposed with their Eva is always a compelling image.

I thought of displaying it with the recent PM Rei, but it's difficult since that Rei’s base is so large. I could really only get them to look decent in this position, and it still doesn’t look great.

Unless you plan on modifying one or both of their bases it’s not practical to display them right next to each other.

If you like the look of the awakened Mark.09, HLJ still has it in stock right now, and PM figures are easily located on the aftermarket in any case. It has quite an impressive appearance and is overall a great buy for the price, so I definitely recommend it to Eva collectors who like Rebuild/Q.

Moro (Il y a 4 ans) #2353606Nono, I bought it from AmiAmi, but the EVA-04/EVA-Mark.06 set is specifically related to one of the Evangelion pachinko machines because both are Evas that Kaworu uses in the various "bonus cutscenes."

Oh lol, I feel silly now. Thanks for the link!

Moro (Il y a 4 ans) #2353345This one ITEM #96104 ! I got it in a set with the EVA-Mark.06 (that had the correct metallic red Lance of Cassius.) It's very shimmery and pretty much matches the pachinko machine's computer model exactly. That Revoltech was from a pachinko machine?

Moro (Il y a 4 ans) #2352311The revoltechs are super shiny but the ones with a metallic sheen especially look pretty nice overall. I have the EVA-04 and both it and its Lance of Longinus have a metallic shine and it looks like it leapt straight out of the Eva pachinko machine that it's from.Wait, which EVA-04?

kevinlowl (Il y a 4 ans) #2352302Hmm, yeah. That's the dilemma with figures of Evangelion Units; to look real, they've got to look fake, lol

Moro (Il y a 4 ans) #2351670Yeah, I've been considering it, but I don't dislike the matte look so I might not. It's possible that this matte look helps keep this figure from looking too plasticky, as well.

Christown (Il y a 4 ans) #2351878He looks pretty nice for a prize, great review.
That Rei in the last pic is also really nice, there are so many prize figures of her, I wish Alter would give us a Rei scale to go with their Q Asuka.

Considering Rei holds the record for most figures of one character I'm sure we'll get a Q Rei scale, from Alter or Kotobukiya probably. There's just been an Asuka cascade recently (Asuka is in 2nd place so it's no surprise anyway.) WAVE made a Q Rei, but it's only 1/10 so it's pretty tiny (and I don't care for the face.)
