The people behind the storesThe people behind the stores

Something I thought of today - we all treat AmiAmi, Mandarake, *pick your favorite store and insert it here*, and all the other stores that exist as "black boxes". What do I mean by that? It's like a machine: you insert your input (for example question, order or payment), and you receive an output (answer to question, payment request or shipping notice, respectively).

But what about the people behind the stores? After all, there ARE people who work there, answering your questions, packing your orders, shipping your packages, and so on. One might ask: "So? What about them?" That question can be divided to a lot of different sub categories. Here are two possibilities:

1) Do you think the workers give nicknames to high quantity buyers?
For example, let's assume there is someone named Bill who orders a lot of lolis, do you think you could hear at the store offices something like "yeah man, I got to ship this ASAP, loli-Bill ordered again a big one". Then his friend answers "yeah dude, I know, he nagged me in the mail for a whole week about shipping options and stuff".

2) Do you think the customer support people feel bad when they have to ban users?
For example, let's say bill is a long time customer and he needs to be banned because he didn't pay all of his recent pre-orders, and the person in charge identify him by heart, maybe because he answered a lot of Bill's mails. And Bill always was very polite in his mails, do you think that the person in charge would fill sorry for Bill? Or would he wonder if Bill might be in financial difficulties?

There are of course a lot more options for questions other than just those two. So MFC, I would like to hear what do you think of the subject! What about the people behind the stores?

skylinedo (Il y a 2 ans) #4676123for some reason they claim something is "EMS ONLY" when preordering, but list "SAL Parcel" as an option. Anyone else get this?
SAL parcel is an alternative option to EMS for overweight or oversize packages that can't be shipped using Airmail or SAL reg/unreg. It's very slow, so most stores won't advertise it because they want their packages to arrive as quickly as possible to lower chances of losing it, but it's till an actual shipping option. It also has a lower chance of being taxed for people who want to avoid customs.

Tiamat26 (Il y a 2 ans) #4684193A running gag like that is always fun especially if they have someone new working for them and they are not aware of it. The look on the other employees faces.. "What you do not knot Mr (X's) order oh well then Mr (X) would like" and the employees give your order instead of you.
Would be hilarious if it actually happened.

Reality surpasses fiction. In fact it did happen THIS summer at the post office. A new employee asked me for my ID card, something that never happened since a very long time. The old employee just glared at her: "It's him, it's Mr. "X", you never ask him his ID."

He took a guess and said porcelain... I didn't tell him what it really was, kept his curiosity on ahahaha xD

sailormatlac (Il y a 2 ans) #4676003I suspect most people on MFC are now mascot at their local post office. Seriously, they always have some mischievous smile when they see me walking in and use and exaggerately polite "Mr. my-name". They must have a lot of weird theories about me. Recently, they offered me an "entrepreneur account" to get shipping discount even if I never ship items! I'm sure they thought I was running a hobby or collector business.
Your restaurant side story made me remember my years as an exchange student in Europe. I used to always order the same thing at the cafeteria, it was almost a running gag among employees. While waiting in line, they would spot me from afar and shout: "same thing as usual?" which I answered nodding my head. It was funny and at some point I decided to not order anything else just for the sake of this funny tradition.

My local anime store owner and worker recognize my face, so sometime we had a small talk and chitchat about figures, my proxy now become my trusted friend, he runs the proxy for years and started just for japanese goods like branded clothes and other stuff, I use his service a lot until we become friendly and then he even give his account password on yaj, so I can use it whenever I want.

I've started seriously collecting just a few months ago (simultaneous with me making my MFC account, surpise surprise) and I've actively bought at and asked inquiries to local online shops since it's a lot easier to have to pick up an item in a meet up point rather than in the post or customs. Over the course of weeks, they already recognize my face, and sometimes they even joke thru social media and texts. I reckon in the next few weeks, whenever I'll pick up an item, they won't ask at all and they'll just hand the item to me. =))

skylinedo NEEDS YOUR DOWNVOTE ~TY!
'used to work anime goods retail and when I walked into other shops on my off days the workers would freeze up and stop their convos as soon as they recognized me. Same happened at conventions when I used to splurge $400 out of a large wad of cash at a single shops. Shop owners would offer up small discounts, no tax/etc or in on case ... actually offer USA market value over con-markup! I've been told, "wow, you actually know the 'at-cost' price of this!"

My post office thinks I'm running a business! I'm very nice to them and let it slide when they bent my precure clear file.

Amiami generally doesn't bother me b/c they'll lose out on ~$3k for my current preorders. Generally I pay on-time if I can. I don't know if its special treatment but for some reason they claim something is "EMS ONLY" when preordering, but list "SAL Parcel" as an option. Anyone else get this?

carlclover (Il y a 2 ans) #4675610Maybe not at big stores like AmiAmi because of the massive amounts of orders, but I can definitely see it happening for smaller companies, like proxy companies with only a few staff, because of how personal it usually is. So, be nice to your proxies!

I confirm it did happen with my proxy. He's running a very small business and the contact is usually very friendly since we've done business together for a long time now.

I recall one time when an online shop I bought from extensively (not figure related) sent me an email about my health about a year after I reduced my buying. I didn't have any special interaction with their customer service, but I found it quite touching they felt something could have gone wrong on my side since my buying behavior drastically changed.
