Today we'll be reviewing Orchid Seed's Leviathan, the embodiment of envy. She has various cast-off features, so many of the shots below will be NSFW. You've been warned...

About the character: Leviathan's origin traces back to 2010, when Hobby Japan launched their Seven Deadly Sins multimedia project, including a line of figures where each of the seven deadly sins is anthropomorphized in figure form based on designs by the well known Nishii/Niθ ENCYCLOPEDIA #17708, and Leviathan represents envy. In Christian philosophy, generally envy is described as a dual state of simultaneously showing disdain for a person or a thing while also coveting that person or thing. Thus, Leviathan is generally portrayed in figure form as a tsundere, as her tsun tsun side presumably accounts for her feelings of contempt and her dere dere side explains her covetous feelings.

Now on to the review.

Packaging----------9/10

The box contains almost the equivalent of two figures, so not surprisingly half the front panel contains a window, and the various extra parts of the figure are stored away behind the other half of the front panel.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1455852032.jpeg

Each side of the box has a small porthole window, and I like the stenciled "ENVY" logo. As we'll see, the logo also appears on Leviathan's base.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1455852034.jpeg

The back of the box features a number of shots of the figure in its various configurations, and a neat illustration by Niθ.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1455852036.jpeg

Usually, I don't pay too much attention to figure packaging, but Orchid Seed did a really good job on this front. The blister is compact, and there are easily identifiable compartments in the blister for each of Leviathan's extra parts (which is not always the case!). Orchid Seed provides a little insert explaining how to disassemble the figure as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1455852038.jpeg

Despite the fact the figure box contains essentially two entire figures, the box is not overly large or heavy. The box measures 26 by 24 by 12 cm and the whole package weighs in at 580 grams.

Thus, Orchid Seed did a fine job here. The packaging is compact enough so that I can keep the box stored close to my display for when I want to mix up the look of the figure.

Posing----------9/10

Leviathan's pose matches up nicely with her tsundere nature. The way she's lifting up her shirt and showing off her body while seemingly scolding the onlooker makes for a very neat combination!

Let's have a look at her.

On Hobby Japan's Seven Deadly Sins homepage hobbyjapan.co.j... , there is a short story accompanying the illustration which inspired this figure. I don't read Japanese well, and Google's auto-translation is fairly incomprehensible, so the story is sort of lost on me, but Leviathan's pose is certainly full of personality so there are no complaints on this front. Her optional parts also allow Leviathan to be posed in a couple of additional ways as we'll see, so Orchid Seed did a fine job on the posing front.

Sculpting----------9/10
Painting----------7.5/10

Overall, I'd say the overall finish and sculpt of this figure is very good. There is one particular sculpting quirk, and there are a couple of issues on the with paint work, but nothing too distracting.

One of my favorite things about this figure is Leviathan's eyes. Her reddish brown eyes are very expressive, and I like how her bangs hang between her horns.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042294.jpeg

The bat-clip holding her ponytail is cute, but the purple color of her hair seems to bleed just a little bit into her skin. As figures age, this sort of paint bleed is known to happen, so it concerns me a little that there are signs of this phenomenon on a newer figure.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042296.jpeg

The color on her hair is fairly flat, but given its dark color, I don't see this as a big issue.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042298.jpeg

There are a couple of spots in her hair where there is some excess material. The tiny white spots are not paining flaws; rather, I just should have dusted the figure a little better before taking these shots...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042300.jpeg

Micro bikinis are a major moe point for me, and Leviathan's microkini top will certainly draw the eye. The top obviously fits quite tightly, given the way it's pulling her breasts together. Also note the clear suggestion of her nipples through the material.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042364.jpeg

Note the blue smudges of paint on her t-shirt.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042366.jpeg

The pentagram on her shoulder is a neat flourish which further reinforces her demonic nature, but you can see more messy painting on the stripe at the bottom of her sleeve. I do like the leather straps she's wearing on her arm, as they're very sexy and the painting on the buckles is pretty clean, too.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042368.jpeg

I like the way her t-shirt is rolled up on her back. That's a nice detail.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042370.jpeg

Note the subtle bulge in her stomach.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042437.jpeg

Another key feature of this figure is Leviathan's super-skimpy bikini bottom (sort of a trademark of Niθ ENCYCLOPEDIA #17708 , the artist responsible for the Deadly Sins character designs) and her tattered jean short-shorts. I guess the white parts are supposed to simulate ripped denim, but they look a little bit too soft and fluffy :). Note the excess black paint from her bikini bottom that made its way on to her body as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042439.jpeg

That is one skimpy thong!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042441.jpeg

Like her top, that thong obviously has a really tight fit and I like how you can see the waistband pressing in to her flesh and pulling her butt cheeks together :).

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042443.jpeg

Orchid Seed did a nice job sculpting Leviathan's calves, and I like the detail behind her knees.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042445.jpeg

Those are some sexy sandals, with all of those straps and buckles. The blue roses are a nice accent which provide some color.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042566.jpeg

The metal o-rings give a slightly bondagey feel to the sandals. The painting on the rings could be a little better, but that's not the sort of flaw that will readily stand out.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042568.jpeg

This is a cast-off figure, and there are several different ways that Leviathan can be configured, so now let's explore those features.

As you can see, Orchid Seed includes an extra breast part and the breast piece simply lifts off her torso. The top part of her torso lifts off to facilitate the process.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042570.jpeg

On Leviathan's MFC page ITEM #195472 there are some funny comments which imagine what she might be saying to the onlooker. I'll add "just because I'm flashing you my breasts doesn't mean I like you or anything, you know!" to the mix :).

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042574.jpeg

From this angle, the way that her nipples are pointing in orthogonal directions looks just a little bit odd. Maybe her breasts are still in mid-jiggle after pulling up her top...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042614.jpeg

The removable breast part means there is an unavoidable visible seam at the attachment point.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042616.jpeg

Leviathan also comes with an additional upper torso part and additional leg parts, thereby allowing an alternate pose. The alternate upper torso can't really be used in her standing configuration, though.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042618.jpeg

Leviathan's alternate pose is achieved by assembling her alternate upper and middle torsos and then detaching her legs and transferring them. Removing the legs also allows her shorts to be removed.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042620.jpeg

Hobby Japan describes this as Leviathan's "warm-up" pose. I won't be displaying her this way, but it's quite rare to see a figure which allows for two such radically different poses. Note the alternate soles for her sandals which can be swapped in should you opt to keep Leviathan in this pose and you don't want to see the holes which normally attach her to the base.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042622.jpeg

Note the design sculpted into the bikini bottom.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042766.jpeg

She can also be configured in a slightly more conventional sitting pose.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042768.jpeg

Base----------8/10

The ENVY logo from the box is etched into the base.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042770.jpeg

The base is quite small (it's approximately 4 inches [10 cm] in diameter), but it's functional and so there are no complaints here.

Scale Comparison

At its highest point, the figure is 8.25 in (21 cm) tall, and if Leviathan was standing upright, she'd be about 8.75 in (22.25 cm) tall. At 1/7 scale, that would make her 5'1" (156 cm) in height, which seems consistent with her appearance.

Leviathan with another Deadly Sin, Amakuni's Asmodeus ITEM #171477. Asmodeus is listed as 1/7 scale, but in reality, she is quite a bit larger than that. I wish Amakuni would have handled Asmodeus' cast-offability by including an alternate part instead of using stick-on cups in her bunny outfit...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042885.jpeg

The combination of demons and microkinis is a powerful one. Lucifer ITEM #161925 is also 1/7 scale, although Amakuni gives her features (like the head to body ratio) that are more like those of an actual human while Orchid Seed makes Leviathan's appearance more anime-like.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459042956.jpeg

Note the design similarities between Leviathan and Naoe Kanetsugu ITEM #96896 . Naoe is 1/8 scale for comparison.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459043086.jpeg

Elyse ITEM #5864 is another of my favorite diabolic girls, and you can see Leviathan is somewhat larger than the 1/8 scale Elyse.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459043148.jpeg

Demon + thong = win :).

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1459043150.jpeg

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9/10

Arguments for: Many. With all the optional parts, you pretty much get two figures in one, easy cast-off, multiple posing options, the small base is handy if your shelves are getting crowded, and Leviathan's pose perfectly matches her demon tsundere girl nature.

Arguments against: A few instances of sloppy paint work, the "warm-up"/legs up pose is a little awkward and will no doubt induce eye-rolls from houseguests.

For reasons I can not fathom, I didn't preorder this figure, and so I grabbed one just as soon as I found one secondhand. I like the Seven Deadly Sins concept, I like Niθ's character designs, I like demon girls, I like microkinis, and I like figures with multiple display options, and therefore Leviathan is one of my new favorite figures.

Availability (as of this writing)

Still available new.

To my surprise, HLJ still has Leviathan new for 12000 yen. Additionally, these have started to pop up on the big preowned sites, and if you go the preowned route, I'd expect to pay about 9000-10000 yen for this figure. Really not a bad deal considering she is 1/7 scale and you practically get two figures in the package.

davedfx (Il y a 1 an) #17962476I Love this figure. With all the additional parts, I can make many variations. The spread leg V pose doesn't work for me with the face. At least it's free and can be used if I want to start conversations or controversy hahaha

This is also one of my favorites. I also appreciate the number of possible configurations of the figure, but I never really change up Leviathan's look. I guess I just like the microkini + jean shorts combination too much to display her any other way...

victorviper (Il y a 2 ans) #9323617I paid only 2500 yen for Hakufu (she was C/C from AmiAmi). They tried to deliver Hakufu and the rest of this month's order this afternoon, but I got home later than usual, so I'll have to pick her up at the post office tomorrow. I'll probably review her, so we'll see in what state she's in!

I'm a bit behind with reading/checking blogs, but I'll read it for sure! ^^

Maakie (Il y a 2 ans) #9089765Ah, price was never a problem for me as I've seen her for affordable prices quite a lot. It's just that I want to withold on buying any not-must-haves until I have my collection completely set-up at my new place and am sure about what I keep on display. :)
Oh~ I'm curious about the one you will get. I wonder if they forgot to paint the roses on every one of them or that I was just unlucky. >.<

Damn it, couldn't get ITEM #9209 out of my mind and put her on my wishlist again, haha!

victorviper (Il y a 2 ans) #8957591It looks like Alleyne and Branwen are the only QB characters that get much interest these days. When I was checking AmiAmi this morning, Mirim was there for about 3000 yen, so she should be quite cheap if you decide to get her.
On the subject of old forgotten figures, I finally picked up that Hakufu figure ITEM #384 you reviewed a long time ago. She hadn't been on AmiAmi for ages, but there she was the other morning. It was C-grade, so fingers crossed...

Maakie (Il y a 2 ans) #8841922Hrmm, that's really interesting, makes me only more curious. :P
I have no idea how popular Queen's Blade still is or how much interest a review would gather. Nowadays figures are still being made from it, but it's from the most popular characters or new characters. The the lesser known/popular characters (such as Mirim) have had at least 1 scale (mostly made by MegaHouse) and are ignored now. :P

victorviper (Il y a 2 ans) #8742508Mirim's articulation points are limited, as they're not really ball joints. Her head will rotate about 20 degrees in a single plane (not up/down) and her arm can move about 45 degrees.
I've thought about reviewing her, but then I ask myself if there's any real interest in Queen's Blade any more. Plus, the bodysuit is such a pain to get removed (I never have been able to close it properly!). I've got her displayed on an open shelf, and she was really dusty, so I've got her taking a bath in the kitchen sink, so I might try taking some shots of her :).

Oh, that's interesting! Is it a bit like the head of a beach queen, which can be turned because of it's ball-shape on the neck instead of joints?
I guess I was lucky buying my Airi second hand, haha! But I've actually been thinking about either selling her or picking up a second one. I bought that Airi in my beginner-days and paid quite a lot for her without a box, but I want a complete one...
Btw did you ever think of reviewing ITEM #9209 ? I would be interested! ^^
