Things I Did as a Noob in this HobbyThings I Did as a Noob in this HobbyDiary

When we first joined this money-eating, sometimes confusing, headache but still worth it of a hobby, some of us made these silly, annoying mistakes that we regret (or not lol).

Here are some of the silly stuff that I happened to make.

1.) I browsed (and bought) $10 figmas in ebay without knowing that they are fake.(threw them away a few months ago lol)

2.) I did not know that there are, in fact, fake figures in the market. (I first thought that figures are continuously mass-produced)

3.) I passed up on figures that are worth $100+, thinking that it is overpriced for a mass produced plastic toy.

4.) I used to think that figures are just toys. (Noooooooo!)

5.) I wiggled figma stands in the back of figmas when you can't put them on. (Now the survey corps logo on my Mikasa is damaged severely :'( )

6.) I thought that pre-order are not really needed because aftermarket prices/pre owned might be cheaper. (Never been so wrong in my life)
(I'm gonna ignore the fact that my first pre-order is ITEM #293234)

7.) I did not dust my figures. (After I saw dust horror stories I ran to the drugstore and bought a large powder brush solely for the purpose of dusting figures)

8.) I used to think that scale figures are not worth the money. (I don't really know why I thought that. I loooove my scale figures)

9.) I did not check figures for QC problems. (My Kaori scale figure that i've been displaying for months has a discolored left hand. Didn't really notice until I rearranged my shelf. Emailed GSC and they sent a replacement)

10.) I stored boxes right by the window. Now the blister packs of my figmas are deformed :( Please don't be dumb (like me) and store boxes near windows. Or else this will happen.

What stupid stuff did you guys happen to make in your early years?

Voir le spoilerCacher le spoiler On a side note, I think Nendoroid Aoba looks creepy from afar. Just a little bit. His eyes creep me out >< Still love him tho.http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2016/06/29/1569883.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2016/06/29/1569884.jpeg

Also is it okay to store my collection like this? I dust them weekly. I do not have a detolf or an ikea anywhere near me :( Voir le spoilerCacher le spoilerhttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2016/06/29/1569886.jpeg

Working at an Anime Store ruined my life. You don't realize how much things actually cost until you see them whole sale and then just feel bad turning to a customer and selling it for a lot. ALso bootlegs and Fakes, all too common.

This isn't necessarily an amateur mistake, but I strongly regret not having started collecting earlier (several years ago; started last August) since am now having to pay painful aftermarket prices for certain figures due to having missed out on pre-orders. Well, that or am awaiting reruns. Other than that, if there is one distinctively noobish mistake I've made thus far, it was accidentally discarding the clear foot rest of ITEM #13809 along with the plastic, as I didn't know it was included at the time, that is until I noticed the two extra slots in the base of course after which i'd disposed of it. Luckily however, she stands just fine without it.

Buying prize figures locally and on impulse. That has caused me a lot of pain

1) Using Krazy glue super glue on a figure for the first time to try and fix the figure back on her base, because her blasted shoe came off, she won't stand put. Now her legs are ruined and I'm thinking on getting on a new one.

2) I do not dust out my figures too, they are displayed on open bookshelfs. I should buy a brush soon.

3) Seeing a cheaper figure now of a figure I got back then. I could've waited.

Displaying your figures like that is fine. I display mine out in the open like that and tend to leave them far too long between dustings....

As far as what I've done, unknowingly I bought a couple bootleg artbooks off ebay. I didn't know until years later unfortunately, though thankfully I didn't buy any more that were. I still have those two, but everything else I have is legit.

I also sold off ITEM #104 I can get her again fairly cheap, but kind of a dumb move for a mere $40.

A little advice from experience : if you plan to dust your collection every week, make sure to buy a new brush every few months. If not, you'll notice black stains forming on your figures.

regret buying certain figures just for parts where i should've joined a split.

Getting to certain anime too late, to later find out the merch I missed out on/high prices in the after market.

Bought two bootlegs off of eBay when I first started collecting and I used to not dust for a while, but I'm better at keeping up now.
