I’ll be honest with you guys. Momohime here is my first NSFW figure and it took me quite some time to decide if I wanted to take the plunge. Y’know, I was just thinking of all the strange and judgmental looks I might get from some people. But in the end, I bought her. So then you might be asking: “Why?”
Well, a few reasons:
1. I love the game, Muramasa, from which this figure is from. Seriously, if you haven’t played the game, do so. It’s a very fun hack and slash.
2. If Alter’s Momohime is anything to by, there’s a good chance that this exclusive figure could get very expensive down the track.
3. She’s freaking gorgeous. Just look at her.
Also, all that being said, as far as NSFW figures go, she is very tasteful. I mean, have you seen some of Native’s figures? Don’t get me wrong, I love the craftsmanship, but goodness gracious me.
So let’s, as always, start with the box. I’ve noticed a trend where the more NSFW a figure, the classier the box design. Just looked at Native! As with most exclusive figures, especially if they’re NSFW, there are no windows on the box which is a double edged sword. On one hand, this means that you can’t display the figure inside it’s box and you have no idea what the figure looks like before buying it in person. However, it also saves you the potential embarrassment and shame of buying it in person. Unless they decide to add pictures of the figure on the back of the box. Which is exactly what they did here.
Out of the box, something you’ll probably note straight away is just how tall Momohime is. She comes in at 25cm and feels more like a 1/6 or 1/6.5 scale figure than 1/7. She absolutely towers of Alter’s Momohime which is a perfectly average size for 1/8. This isn’t in anyway a complaint. After all, the bigger she is, the more bang for your buck you feel like you’re getting.
The sculpt and painting on Momohime herself is practically flawless. Her body is sculpted to perfection, her facial expression captures her shy, lady-like character perfectly and her hair, complete with flowers, which add a splash of colour, has real dimension. Lesser manufactures tend to have paler figures, but Amakuni certainly avoid that pitfall. Her skin has a lovely natural colour and tone to it.
And of course, there’s a lovely effect on the towel where it looks as though it’s stuck to her body, and you can see her skin through it.
As I’m sure you’ve all noticed at this point, Momohime is not alone. Jinkuro’s soul is hanging around Momohime, clearly giving her a questionable look. Suffice to say though that Jinkuro adds a bit of flair to this figure. Unfortunately, Jinkuro is not detachable. It would have been nice if that were option because I’m sure some people, especially if those who haven’t played the game, would want to display Momohime without him.
I have a strong feeling a lot of people will do that. This is a beautiful figure and one that doesn’t need that much context, Jinkuro aside.
This is a superb base. Not just in execution, but in concept. Sure, it’s not massively elaborate, but it compliments the figure in the best way possible by re-creating the onsen scenes from the game. There’s no branding to distract and it doesn’t just look like a piece of plastic for the figure to stand on. Instead, it becomes part of the figure itself. Not to mention that the base itself is quite well made. The texture is lovely, as is the paint, especially on those rocks. Top marks.
It should be noted that, I have read quite a few comments on MFC regarding the QC. Thankfully, I myself can not add anything to that since mine came in perfect condition.
In conclusion I would have to say that as far as NSFW figures go, this is certainly one of the more tasteful out there. By no means is this an elaborate figure, however, it is a beautifully made one.
