maggie (Il y a 1 an) #22399682Wow... even I have never seen that one before and I collected plush since the mid 90s-2000s and had more than almost anyone I had run into that collected them (though granted I thought the DBZ ones looked silly so I never got them). I know sailor moon did have a line that looked similar by Banpresto that had bendy wires on the inside, so this may be similar to that. However, I don't know Banpresto to have used a fabric like that for the DBZ plushies back then.

Actually googling this is the kind of set I'm thinking of: 3.bp.blogspot.c... Maybe Banpresto wouldn't have sewn the arms like that? Also I haven't seen many plush using that style of hair, it's rather rare (Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi did tho). So, with the fabric, the way it was sewn, and the hair, I don't think it's Banpresto. I could be wrong! but... I've never seen a plushie like that before. I do have a friend that owns almost all the DBZ plushies and he doesn't have that one. If I could see his tush tag maybe it would be telling.

I keep mentioning Banpresto because I'm not sure another company would have the rights to make DBZ UFO catcher items. There are some other brands that used different fabric and techniques.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I'll definitely keep a note on the Banpresto information that you've mentioned. Hopefully it should lead somewhere eventually.

The Virtua Fighter plushies I linked in an earlier comment also have that same type of fabric in the hair for a few of them as well. Seems like it gets used if a character has particularly spiky or poofy hair that wouldn't translate too well if it were "sculpted" so to say.

Do you think you could possibly link me to the Sailor Moon plushies you were speaking of? The only ones I can find so far out of the 91 pages of indexed material are ITEM #13673 which actually leads me into another point of interest.

1995 seems to be a significant year with the plushies discussed so far. It was the year Sailor Moon began airing in the US (August 1995), the year those Virtua Fighter plushies were released and is also the same year that Super Saiyan 3 was first revealed, specifically March 1995. Banpresto usually tends to be on the pulse when it comes to new material, so I don't think it would be too difficult to imaguine that it was released in that year.

The bendy wire thing seems like it would line up with the proportions as well, especially if the material was soft enough to hold a pose of some sort.

The *only* thing that might hold this back is the aforementioned 1995 date for Sailor Moon, though I am doubtful Irwin Toys would release a SSJ3 Goku toy in that year due to DBZ not yet airing at the time (1996 was when the series first began in the US).

    Details, details. The search continues!

Thanks for your help anyway. If you could keep an eye out, that would be great since I think you may have some interest in this as well if this mystery gets solved, haha.

Lehst (Il y a 1 an) #22405104unhelpful comment is unhelpful:
Despite looking a the ones for Virtua Fighter, I'm still convinced the Goku plush is fan-made/not official. The design/seams are highly unusual in several places, and don't look assembly line friendly. The Virtua Fighter ones look like they can easily be made on an assembly line, and even look a little cleaner. Unofficial plush often have interesting details though.

But of course I could be wrong, I didn't find with anything to confirm with either.

I'm holding onto hope that it is an offical product, which would make tracking it down much easier than if it wasn't.This plush has become my new holy grail of sorts, so it would be great if I could manage to acquire it.

Yeah, I've updated the post to just include the gallery link to the image. Should be no more hassle now.

maggie (Il y a 1 an) #22393181The picture isn't coming up for me, but if it's the ones I'm thinking of (because they are silly looking) they came out in the 90s iirc as it was around the same time as the sailor moon ones. Should be made by Banpresto, and yes it would have a tag.
Honestly I need a picture and then I can tell you. Quote me when the picture is posted and I'll come take a look.

BlackApplePlus (Il y a 1 an) #22394177i couldnt see it either. I tried imgur.com/t0FkL... and could view the bizzare plush! See if it works for you

Suppi12 (Il y a 1 an) #22389936Wish I could help but that is one funny/unique Goku plush XD
To me it looks like a fan-made unofficial plush.

Pretty sure it isn't a fan-made plush. It apparently may have been a UFO Catcher prize according to someone else. It also resembles these Virtua Fighter plushies in certain design details such as the flocked hair, facial/head shapes and proportions, which leads me to guess the possibility of same manufacturers, especially since these were also UFO Catcher toys.

tsunderequeen (Il y a 1 an) #22389448imgur links don't work on this website anymore so you may want to link a new picture! :^)

Went ahead and made it an external link instead of a direct one. Cheers.
