Hello!

This is my first review and today I'm happy to present the long awaited Lavi from the GEM Series. Just want to start out by saying that Ive been looking forward to this figure as I am a huge D.Gray-man fan. I don't think I'm very good when it comes to reviewing figures but wanted to give it a try and so ill try to keep this short.

The Box
So lets start with the box...It's big. Lol I expected it to be one of the big boxes that GEM usually send their figures out in but this one is even larger. Its a nice shade of blue that fades to an even darker blue and has a big window that gives you a nice view of the figure before opening it. On the back of the box there is a close up/ preview of the face and upper body which is great, that way you can see the smaller details.

The Base
Here we have the base. The base to this figure is large! It's very wide due to Lavi's pose and having his giant hammer with him, which we will get to soon. Now the base is pretty plain and I was actually surprised to see it was just white since the prototype showed it being black. Now depending on what your into, you'll either hate it or love it. Some will probably say they hate it because its just a plain white square with the anime and character name printed onto it but I personally don't mind because it isn't distracting and doesn't take away from the figure. Another thing about the base is that even though its bigger than your typical figure base, fortunately it doesn't take up much room at all, which is great because I was expecting it to take up a lot of room. And we figure collectors need to save as much room as possible for more so I am personally very happy with it. XD

The Hammer

Now his size shifting anti-akuma weapon is simple but they did a very good job.
They painted it in a way so where from some angles it looks like a matte black but then from other angles it still looks a bit metallic. The handle to the hammer is painted in a nice metallic red and you can find the horizontal lines on the hammer in the same shade. And last, so the hammer isn't just resting on the ground, they provided a metal rod that keeps it in the air. Its not bad but I would of preferred something transparent like an acrylic rod instead.

Next up, lets have a look at the figure itself.

Where to start? From a distance, he looks fantastic.
Zoom up on him and he still doesn't disappoint. The sculpt is beautifully done and personally, I am in love with his face. The pose they went with is great and I love that it looks like he's in motion.
I thought his hammer was what would of made this figure great but really its that scarf. Its what really gives the figure the illusion of movement. Without it, Lavi would not look as cool as he does. Speaking of which, the scarf isn't set in place and you can wiggle it but I don't think it was made to be removable.

The detail on this figure is fantastic. From his hair to his bandana. And even his fanny pack(? Lol)/satchel is sculpted very nicely.
The only problem I could find (and it may just be mine) is that there seems to be a seam line/gap on his scarf that isn't completely connected buuut its not even that noticeable to begin with. Especially considering that its in a spot where you cant view it from the front.

The paint work is flawless. I am just impressed with how it all came out. The colors are really eye catching to begin with. He has a hint of a gradient in his hair and the shading in his clothes is very nicely done. Another thing I love are his boots! They're simple but have a nice shine to them. I cant find any messy paint splatters or any colors bleeding into areas where they're not suppose to be.

In the end I can say that MegaHouse did a great job and left me impressed. Hoping to hear that they continue making more figures from this series. Price wise he's a little expensive but I don't regret getting this figure . So if you have the chance to find him for a good price, buy him. You wont regret it. He'll definitely make a great addition to your collection as he did with mine.

And I just noticed but it seems I have a thing for collecting characters that have black and red...now I just have to wait to add ITEM #463456 to the collection.

Just adding on that his belt is a separate sculpt piece and it's flexible, which is very cool, as is the hammer handle, it's not rigid. Mine also has the scarf ridge thing, however I think it's not as bad as some people's? It's at most a millimeter wide. Also, there is like a 5mm gap between the end of the hammer handle and his hand, looking at the official pictures, I think it's supposed to be like that, but it feels kinda loose. Maybe I put the hammer in wrong??? Idk lol

rubyserpent_720Il y a 3 ans#25273215Thanks for the review. He looks amazing :)
I sort of wish MH has a 'lite' version where he doesn't have his weapon. He looks gorgeous with it but takes up way too much space ;;

Yeah but he is worth it. I definitely don't mind the space that this figure takes.

SolarstormflareIl y a 3 ans#25260131Ah, nice! I just spotted a blurry rin okumura in the background of your photo, we have similar taste! I don't mind the base being white, and i'll have a look for the scarf seam when mine comes in :) oh i love ur kaneki figure and all your neal shusterman books! Isn't he a great author??

Thanks, I Like my Kaneki a lot too :]and yes, Neal Shusterman is a wonderful author! He has been my favorite since I was 13! I swear every time I'm done reading one of his books I'm just like "Neal, you've done it again!" Lol and let me know when you get your Lavi if it has that gap thing. I want to know if its just mine or if they all have it.

aurybqIl y a 3 ans#25258633Well he looks just as amazing in real life. You'll love him for sure!
And as for the hammer, its very light weight. Lavi feels heavier.
And no, Lavi comes separated from his base and hammer. The hammer it self comes in two pieces. You just attach the handle to the barrel.

SolarstormflareIl y a 3 ans#25258305Omg thank you! I had to pay 200 aud all up for mine and he isn't shipped yet but he lools amazing! Is the hammer in your opinion, solid? It might explain why they went with metal rather than acrylid. Also, is lavi attatched to his hammer and base or does he come off? I have 2 gem already and anouther 2 on the way and they're always great!!!
