Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review! :3

This post will be picture-heavy (blahblablah x3)

This time I'll be reviewing Alter's Roomwear Mode figure of Scáthach from the Fate/Grand Order game. I preordered the figure more or less on a whim, since she had such a cozy vibe and a simplistic beauty to her. Also Scáthach was the second 5-star servant I got in the game (oh boy, did my boyfriend hate me for that x3), though at that time I wasn't all that fond of her. Well, that changed over time making me more excited to finally get this figure, which I'll now proudly present to you.
So without further ado let's get down to 'business'.^^

Starting off with the box, you can see that it's a fairly simple affair. See-through full-plastic with pink lines and writing (actually in pink and silver) and cardboard inlays on the sides, showing pictures of the figure, and bottom (with the usual 'gibberish' x3). Given how simple the figure itself is the box's design fits quite well. As time goes on I'm growing more fond of those full-plastic boxes, especially for simple/more compact figures, though that's entirely a matter of taste.

The blister is just as simple as the box, protecting the figure and base(though that could already be seen from the outside).

Well, the base also is a simple thing, a brown circled field of fuzz and while it certainly fits the overall visuals I never liked those kinds of bases (they always seem somewhat cheap to me).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083605.jpeg
The 2 plastic pegs are hidden inside the plush and apparently that led to some people having trouble propping Scáthach up without her being wobbly. Another push made her fit just fine in my case (without any instability). To be fair the pegs creaked a bit, but didn't give off a too fragile expression. I also removed the figure from the base a few times for the review and everything nothing seems amiss.

Now for the 360° view...

Scáthach's (or 'Shishou's' since she was Cú Chulainn's mentor in the Celtic Ulster mythology) face is really beautiful, especially the red eyes (contrasting nicely with her dark hair) and the relaxed expression (very unlike a warrior queen).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083668.jpeg
I also really like the gloss they applied to her lips.

Her hair is slightly disheveled with very precise sculpting for almost all strands. Maybe except for the fringe, which could've been a tad bit more defined, but still looks really great. The paint also looks fairly good, the transition between dark purple and almost black, as well as the more glossy than usual finish.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083677.jpeg
I'll say this now (even with a lot of 'hair-pictures' laying ahead), but I like the glossier finish for her hair. Quite a few users complained about it looking cheap~ish, but I really can't agree with that. It's not as 'bad' as people make it out to be (or maybe there are odd ones out there) and certainly doesn't look cheap in my eyes. On the contrary I think it looks quite great giving her a classy and very groomed vibe. Additionaly giving dark hair proper shading and texture (without looking overdone or dowright weird) is quite hard, from what I saw on other figures, and this certainly 'enhances' the overall impression.

With that out of the way let's look at the hair a bit more. And what can I say... it looks lovely, flowing down her back with a lot of different strands precisely sculpted and nicely shaded. One thing I'm not fond about is the top of her head though. The sculpting of the hair line and some strands just look a bit sloppy and less defined than I would've liked (especially for the price and considering that it's Alter). Otherwise there obviously went a lot of care into it. Heck, they even took her bend head into account, sculpting the hair in a slightly angular line.

The hair does look darker than in the promo-pics and some voiced their concerns about that, though that can easily be attributed to the lighting (used in those pictures). I don't really have a strong opinion about that, since I still looks good to me (not in breach with the character design either), but just comparing her to the Nendo (which is the only other non-trading figure I have of her) shows how much of a difference there can be between various depictions.

Next let's take a look at her sweater (also a matter of debate and critique). The sweater is made of soft, thin wool with a slight reddish tint... or at least that's what it looks like (which is quite a feat imo). The thin part I'd assume from the way it clings to her body and creases. Well, those creases look very life-like indeed apart from the fact that no sweater ever would cling like that under her chest. OK, unless you'd actually put it there (but why anyone do that?). Let's just attribute that under 'yeah, it's anime-physics..'. Then again she's also quite obviously not wearing a bra (sure making herself comfortable at home). x3

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083802.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083809.jpeg
I really don't have anything to complain here, I even like the way the seams at her sleeves are also the place where her arms were attached. Also the lines and transition between the general 'fabric' and the cuffs are just gorgeous. Some people complained about the reddish tint, used for the shading, and again I absolutely can't agree. It might be because I knit stuff like sweaters myself, but this certainly isn't anything unrealistic. There's a lot of wool (mostly high-quality/expensive stuff) that color-wise looks just like that. Those types are mostly a bit fuzzy and really soft. The fuzz gives it the somewhat 'multi-colored' look (though calling it that might be exaggerating). Therefore I don't mind the sweater not being completely creme-colored, quite the contrary. I like Alter going all the way making Scáthach look every bit like a relaxed, but quite groomed and beautiful lady.

Now onto her hands, which prove the 'groomed' part yet again, with the long slender fingers and beautifully, but subtly painted fingernails (was quite hard to get a 'decent' picture of those though x3).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083815.jpeg

Some obligatory NSFW-pictures...
Voir le spoilerCacher le spoilerHer pants are a simple, slightly shiny, black ones which also gives off an expensive vibe (I'd expect some lace at the top, but who knows x3).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083820.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083825.jpeg

Now onto her gorgeous legs. Again you can see some very fine sculpting and shading, making the legs look quite realistic (also the 'skin' really feels soft and pleasant to the touch). Her pose seems relaxed but also a tad hesitant, seeing how her legs are aligned, this adds a cute vibe to the general coziness.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083832.jpeg

Going further down we arrive at her feet and well... this is certainly a figure to trigger a foot fetish, because her feet are just perfect. Every toe is given minute detail and the toe nails just like her fingernails are subtly painted. Also the way her ankles look and how the soles bend look fabulous.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083837.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083849.jpeg
I really like how the feet dig into the base too (I wish I had a carpet that soft!).

Last but not least some size-comparisons. Scáthach is listed as a 1/7 figure, measuring 24 cm. Without the base she stands at 23 cm so that much is accurate. Her height listed in the FGO-wiki is 168cm, so it should be 24 without the base though, seeing how she stands fairly straight she is a bit too tiny. Well, 168 cm is on the bigger side for female characters anyway, so I'd like to forgive that (but only because I want her to look good next to other 1/7 figures).
Anyway I'll start off comparisons with 1/8 figures.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083856.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083864.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083872.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083883.jpeg
So, while male figures might come close in size, most 1/8 figures will still look at least a bit odd next to her (the face-size looks off). Only the maid figure does come close.

1/7 figure on the other hand look really natural next to her.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083890.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083898.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1531083906.jpeg
Some characters (especially female ones) might not come close in height, but the faces and body proportions will come close enough. I'd still say Scáthach's figure is fairly average for a 1/7 figure, even with her somewhat unusual height (and that's with her actually being 1 cm too short).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Conclusion
Let's make this short. I love this figure, she is beautiful in her simplicity and I like the comfortable vibe. As I said before she looks like a sort of high-class lady casually lounging around at home. There are some actual imperfections (guess even Alter isn't perfect), but quite a bit of the criticism voiced by others is unjustified imo (at least to some degree). Maybe I just got lucky and got a 'good one',
but I can only work with what I got (and what I got is really good in my eyes).^^“
Regardless the price (11.980Yen at preorder) is quite steep for a relatively simple figure and while I personally think she was worth it, not everyone will agree with that (and rightfully so).
That's it for this review! Thanks for reading! ^^
As you should know by now,
I always appreciate constructive criticism so don't be shy. :3
But I'll reserve myself a right to have a different opinion on some things.
Of course any thoughts on the figure are very welcome too!^^
Cantisama (Il y a 2 mois) #37203089Great review! I like your photos and how you picked up on the smaller details like her lip gloss.
I'm a big fan of casual looks for characters that are usually serious. I wish her hair was lighter/purpler, but otherwise she looks fantastic as expected. Looking forward to receiving mine.
Thank you! :3 I could've added some more though, like how the sweater reaches farther down on her back because she's more curvy in the chest area or how her belly is ever so slightly curved, just like in the FGO illustrations and stuff, but I didn't want it to be too 'dry', I suppose. x3
I usually like that too, though it also depends on how much the casual outfit appeals to me. The hair is a matter of taste to some degree I guess, but the very warm lighting in the promo pictures, which made it look lighter conveyed a wrong impression somehow.
PanchitoMatte (Il y a 2 mois) #37182061That "softness" to the skin is something I had the pleasure of experiencing for the first time when ITEM #532059 showed up. I haven't a clue how they do it, but it really is fascinating.
Musst be something about the finish they use, I just checked (because I only knew of Alter doing that), but you're right, Rin is exactly the same. I really love that they also put effort where you don't 'see' it and it feels really HQ too. <3
I haven't received mine yet, so at the moment, I can only voice my opinion based on user pictures and comments I've read, but it seems to be a great figure, even though it might have some QC issues that are not much common with Alter figures. I think they made the hair a bit too dark, and the glossy finish looks a bit strange in some pictures I've seen around, but I really need to see it in person to make a conclusion. Her legs and feet look really incredible, though! ^^
Thank you! :3
Yeah the QC-issues were something I didn't expect with this figure, but some user comments made me more worried than necessary (imo anyway). I think the hair should've been a bit more purplish too (not as light as the Nendo though), but I still quite like how it turned out. As for the glossiness, I might have a theory about why it looks strange in some pictures, because light behaves a bit differently with dark backgrounds. I posted a review for a Rin figure some time ago using a black background and the whole figure looked incredibly shiny (more than she really is), so I tested taking pictures with a plain white background for my loot post and the difference was... interesting (I used the same lighting ofc). Well, that sure convinced me not to use the black background again.
It's still better to base your opinion on the actual figure you'll receive though.
I love them too and it's almost a shame the feet dig that deep into the fluff, partly obscuring the view. ^^
