Summer/Fall Loot -- Buying what I want because goddamn cancerSummer/Fall Loot -- Buying what I want because goddamn cancer

ActActIl y a 26 joursLoot
Hello, FJ! So over the summer I found out I have fucking breast cancer (I'm going to be fine, it just sucks and also I'm 27 so wtf) and was immediately like WELL I'M DYING NO REASON NOT TO BY EVERYTHING FROM JAPAN I'VE EVER WANTED, and then my job was like, 'wow cancer we don't want to deal with that you're fired' because MURICA but I already had all these packages on the way so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I know that was a lot of information but there's no way to give this loot a clean backstory, it's just a clusterfuck.

(Early in the process I was like, 'Wow I don't want to make people uncomfortable maybe I should keep it on the DL but at this point I've completely stopped caring -- I've reached this stage where I'm like I CAN GO TO A PETCO IN MY PJs WITH NO BRA ON TO LOOK AT FERRETS I HAVE FUCKING CANCER WHO IS GOING TO TELL ME NO and it'd be nice if not for the chemo.)

ANYWAY, I've been slowly receiving all my packages over the past couple of months and the last of them got here today so I figured I'd show some stuff off in the interest of silver linings.

AmiAmi

First up, a snugly packged Ami box with one thing in it. ITEM #287 Lol, that item number.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906707.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906712.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906718.jpeg

I've low-key wanted this for a while but it is a bit hard to find and the price tends to fluctuate, so when I saw it on Ami preowned for less than 6k I nabbed it. For how old it is, it's great quality. I do wish the paddle wasn't so big. Even if it is proportional, it makes it a pain to display. Also, wow did I forget how big 1/6 is. I like smaller scales so much better.

Some more pics under the cut:

Suruga-ya

Next to come was Suru, stupidly packaged as usual. I always cheap out of paying for repackaging for my Suru boxes and then they get here and I remember it's always worth it because they basically choose the most impractically sized box they have to ship and use that.

Anyway, Suru is the best because they always have fun straps and trading figs you can't find anywhere else.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906751.jpeg

ITEM #119885 I actually got a blindbox of this strap set from Manda and then realized the odds of it being Bea for 200JPY were pretty low, so I got Bea directly. She was expensive for a strap -- like 1300JPY -- but totally worth it, since Umineko has basically no merch.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906754.jpeg

ITEM #5621 This loot is like 75% ARIA stuff, I'm sorry, it's what I watch over and over when I'm stressed.

Suru also FINALLY had a Pokemon doujin I've wanted for a while, chat perche's Cadeau. It turns out they had some other chat perche artbooks I didn't even know existed, and they were all so cheap, I nabbed those too. I have a Pokemon artbook problem I need to stop but I won't.

ITEM #274909 ITEM #755125 ITEM #755123

There are some more pics of these over on the item pages, but here a few:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1536245615.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1536245586.jpeg

Mandarake

I actually had two Manda packages come, and the single was first, ITEM #82371:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906603.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906605.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906608.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906614.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906621.jpeg

This is ARIA garage kit I've wanted for a loooong time. I really don't like any of the Akari prepainted figs, and I've been waiting for probably years now for a GK I liked to come up. This was wouldn't have been my first choice, but the odds of any one of them popping up now is so slim I really can't complain. I don't like how the original artist did her face so I'm going to change that up, but otherwise I do like it.

Next up was my biggest box of the loot, the Manda haul.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906628.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906631.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906637.jpeg

This is just a bunch of miscellaneous crap and I love it. Also empty DD cups because I've officially morphed into New England trash.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906643.jpeg

First of all, why the fuck is this so big?!?! It was 200JPY and I assumed it was a normal rubber strap until I opened this package and it's the size of my damned face! How do you display this?! I still don't know what I'm going to do with it, it's a ridiculous item. I'm not sure if it's ITEM #528746 or if that's a normal sized one or what.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906646.jpeg

Next up, sizeways, more ARIA. This is a nice acrylic strap that's not in the database.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906653.jpeg

ITEM #119886 Turns out I was right to hedge my bets. Manda kind of pissed me off with this -- they had it advertised as an unopened blindbox, but they clearly knew it was Kinzo when they made the listing based on the way they sent it to me, and set it up that way because they thought being honest about it would make it harder to sell. Manda generally gives no shits about customer service so I'm not surprised or anything, but it was a slimy move. Also an unnecessary one, as I probs would have bought it anyway and not then been irritated at them over it.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906655.jpeg

LOL why not

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906658.jpeg

This is a Kirby whiskey glass. I actually thought it was a sake cup and was pleasantly surprised when I opened it how big it is. It's also super cute.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906666.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906663.jpeg

IDK why these uploaded upside down but OH WELL. ITEM #429600 I saw someone get this in an Ami grabbag and it's so damn cute that when I saw it on Manda for like 200JPY I had to.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906668.jpeg

Next up is ITEM #17984, which came is a weirdly tiny box.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906676.jpeg

For a prize figure from 2010 she's actually great quality. My only complaint is that there's what look like water stains on the base:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906671.jpeg

I don't think this is a manufacturer defect, though. It's really cute and not fanservicey and I really want the ITEM #23949 to go with it now.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906679.jpeg

Lastly, yes, more ARIA. More Alice specifically. ITEM #3163 I accidentally bought the Akari of this line a while ago and didn't like it at first, but it grew on me, and this was under 1kJPY on Manda so I nabbed it since I want the set of them now. Like my Akari one, there's no way to keep the hat on, which is annoying, but for under $10 it's super cute. Though apparently this was 5700JPY in 2008 (!) which is ridiculous highway robbery. This thing is worth like $19.99 NIB, max.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906692.jpeg

Everything together.

Y!JA

Last but not least, the straggler, from Yahoo Japan via ZenMarket.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906695.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906699.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906701.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Act1537906705.jpeg

It's another ARIA garage kit, ITEM #25608, because over three years I didn't see one and now two pop up all of a sudden one after the other. I actually would have ordered this but not the Akari one if I'd known, but oh well. This is actually one I've wanted pretty badly for a while and I'm so glad to have found it, and pretty surprised considering how old it is. Like the Akari, it comes with instructions I can't read and decals for the uniform, which are nice.

Anyway, that's that! I love getting stupid little things like straps and doujins; they're inexpensive and low-stress and happymaking, yeah? Here's to anime merch and better times!

Also... wow there was a lot of Alice Carroll stuff this time. I don't actually particularly like her or anything, it just so happened the stuff I'd been wanted from ARIA that came up was all Alice stuff. I'm on the lookout for Aika merch now so maybe next time I get terrible news I'll make a post with a million Aika things, lol.

Good luck with the treatments I hope you whoop Cancers BEEE Hind ...

As for your job I would have one thing to say and that is that if you can prove that they fired because you have Cancer and there is no other legitimate reason for firing you you can sue them for wrongful dismissal. granted this is not an easy process but I would at least talk to a lawyer about it. Some work pro bono for these types of cases since we are talking cancer and they pay themselves only when you get a settlement.

Just a thought.

Nice pick me up loot btw..

Its great that your outlook is so positive. When my mother was diagnosed (now about 6 years ago) with breast cancer it was quite important that she kept a positive outlook on life, because the depression following getting diagnosed can take quite a heavy toll on people. Make sure to keep the people who really care about you in your corner and do the things that make you happy.

Best of wishes with your treatment,
And of course thanks for sharing such a wonderful haul :)

Oh god, that Waddledee strap… I have no idea why but the Kirby ichiban kuji straps are always humongous?? I was as shocked as you when I saw one for the first time. The database page you linked to definitely is the same strap. I was contemplating hanging my Kirby strap on my car rearview mirror for a while but ended up gifting it to a friend instead. I think she displays it on her wall.

Best wishes on your recovery! Thanks for taking the time to share your loot and article with us.

Act (Il y a 25 jours) #40808597!!! Her style is so cute! Do you know if she ever does doujins or prints?
I really want Bern but I'll wait for her to come up on Suru even if it's more expensive; I'm super unlucky with blindboxes and I'd rather know what I'm getting. Plus I don't really trust Manda.

Every so often she'll post on her twitter/tumblr that she's going to sell a doujinshi on her tictail, but I haven't seen her say that in a while. I got really lucky and ordered a few of her books when they went up for preorder. I would watch her social media if possible.
mobile.twitter....

I tend to be pretty lucky with blind boxes, but it's usually just better to go after the one you want even if it's more expensive. I don't plan to try to order them from Manda again because like you said, they knew what they were sending you. Good luck finding Bern and others that you want!

Ahhhhh your Aria and Umineko loot makes me so happy!
That Alice garage kit ;3; It's so lovely I can't wait to see it completed!!

(also never feel shame about braless ferret petting. When I was having a rough day in school I would go to the free zoo and just watch the sea lions for as long as I needed <3)

I hope you get medical attention soon and start feeling better <3

BVibes (Il y a 25 jours) #40792979I hope you receive treatment, that absolutely sucks. I cant believe your job can just fire you like that. It's incredibly awful and I wish you the very best of luck.
Those Pokemon artbooks are so neat and cute! Have you looked at Namie's Pokemon art? She's one of my favorite artists and I think you might like it too. Her art always puts me in a cheerful mood.
I bought several of those Umineko charms from Manda, I got lucky that I got the one I wanted in the second batch (Virgillia) but they also sent me doubles. I got a double of Lambda and I have one of them on my car keys, but I also got doubles of Natsuhi and two of the Siesta Sisters. Kinda sucked because I wanted Bern and Beatrice but that's how things go with random straps. I think you made a good choice in ordering Beatrice separately.

Nyangire (Il y a 25 jours) #40806450When i read u were fired because of cancer i felt sick to my stomach. Im so very sorry for you.
But maybe its a blessing in disguise, no1 should work for people like that, and its good that you left them, I'd sue if u can.
You might end up living your best life!
I know this might be off topic...
How did u find out you have cancer? did u notice something? was it a regular checkup?
I'm always so worried i might have it due to family history and yet the doctors dont do anything like checkups or questioning or any kind of physical examination, theres also no education on its symptoms or self diagnosing.
You dont have to answer, but keep your head up.

Yeah, at first I was pretty beside myself, but I do kind of feel now that it's for the best. My teaching job has been really great and supportive and it's made it clear just how little I need people who are going to be weird about it.

I found out doing a self-exam. I'm super young, but I have a big family history, so I always have checked pretty frequently just in case. Most women find out via self-exams, so it's def something to do. There's not any special method to it, really -- just kind of press all around feeling for lumps. I knew what it was as soon as I found it; it was pretty easy to tell it was abnormal, especially in comparison to the other side. I'm lucky to live in an area with a lot of women's health centers, so as soon as I found it it was just a phone call to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately if you're somewhere without good medical access I'm not sure what the process would be.

Unfortunately in the US those protections only apply to sufficiently large companies -- my job was small so they could do whatever they wanted, and they wanted to suck. womp womp

mintea (Il y a 26 jours) #40784358:s I'm sorry to hear about the cancer. Hope your treatments go well. As for them firing you just what the absolute fuck? Gotta love america. I agree with Tiamat tho :/ If there's proof they fired you over that, lawsuit time

This is the answer, unfortunately. They're too small to be covered by FMLA or the ADA, which only kick in for medium-sized companies because idk, screw the worker FREEDOM

Thank you! For better or for worse I deal with depression already, so fortunately I had a whole psych team in place to help out. The weirdest part is honestly dealing with the physical illness; I'm so used to dealing with the mental side that being like actually sick bodily is really weird.

moonstarfc (Il y a 26 jours) #40777032I love the Kirby Sweets Party goods (I really want that entire collection!) and the pokemon artbooks are adorable!

Kirby merch is amazing. There's just so much cute stuff and little terraiums and straps and I have a real problem send help

orochimaruxsaber (Il y a 26 jours) #40778335hey, it's gonna be alright <3 did you catch the cancer in an early stage?
health problems are extremely stressful, sending u strength ;-; hopefully this is reassuring, my aunt had breast cancer and survived it. I'm pretty sure she was much older than you are, so at least you have your youth on your side, which I think helps a lot. I know nothing will put your mind at ease until you actually get treatment, so i hope you can get the treatment you need asap! and please give yourself adequate rest during this time ;;
btw those pokemon artbooks are so cuteee & i cant wait to see the GKs completed!!! iremember the blog you posted of Azumanga daioh ones, they turned out really nice
