Tokyo Comic Con 2018 After ReportTokyo Comic Con 2018 After Report

Hi everyone!

How have you all been doing? It’s been a while but today I’m here with an after report on Tokyo Comic Con!

Winter is definitely a slow time for events in the US, but with Tokyo Comic Con in December and Wonder Festival Winter in February, it’s definitely not a slow time for us here at Kotobukiya headquarters!

This year was the third time for the event, and Kotobukiya has been participating since year one! It was also my second time attending since I started working here.

Although it’s still smaller than New York or San Diego Comic Con, the scale of the event is impressive given how young it still is! It’s also impressive how much the event has grown between this year and last.

Anyways, here’s a look at our booth:
As a Comic Con, our displays and sales were focused on American titles.
Our Star Wars display.
Infinity War lineup (minus Iron Spider) and our 1/6 scale ARTFX Black Panther.
The Adi Granov Avengers series (minus Vision).

1/6 scale Spider-Man Webslinger and Venom. These mixed-media pieces are made of PVC with resin bases.
We were able to display our X-Men ’92 diorama outside of a case this time!
Our Fantastic Beasts lineup. The detail on these is amazing!
Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle! The prototype for Twilight Sparkle was finally revealed in honor of the event. Stay tuned for more updates from this series in the coming months!
My Little Pony and G.I. Joe aren’t quite as well known over here in Japan, but Shunya Yamashita’s gorgeous artwork caught a lot of attention on the corner of our booth.
The sculpt for our Catwoman Bishoujo was also revealed for the event.
Here’s a look at our anime display.
Prinz Eugen from Azur Lane.
Hero & Morgana from Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight looking snazzy.
The character I love to hate from Persona 5, Akechi Goro.
Yoh Asakura and Hao! This piece is really special because it’s based on art by the manga’s artist.
The prototypes for our Frame Arms Girl Baselard and Stylet statues.
Dennou Shoujo Siro!
The painted prototype for our Batman Ikemen was revealed, as well as the next character for the new series, Joker!
In addition to having the Ikemen series on display, we also had a special photo spot for the event!
The Gotham City inspired backdrop was very popular with cosplayers!

Each “Ikemengram” prop had a cutout and customized “hashtags” showing off the personality of each character.
We also had a postcard giveaway for people who took photos at the event and uploaded them with the hashtag #ikemenseries.
It was lots of fun to see the ways everyone used the props, from interesting poses to combining the props to show off their favorite groupings and pairings.

It’s really a unique event! Despite being an event focused on American comics, it feels very Japanese in some ways, from the surprisingly large number of guests in kimono, to different companys’ attempts to combine the two worlds in their booths. Warner Brothers/DC even had a Japanese festival inspired booth, and carried a portable shrine decorated with our ARTFX+ statues through the event each day!

Anyways, that about sums it up for Tokyo Comic Con 2018.

I know I say this every time, but for the earliest updates (event related and otherwise) please consider following us on social media!

We always try to save some sneak peeks of upcoming products for events.

See you after the next con!

Hi LoveChopper and Rivalappears,

Thank you for your comments! We will not see anything from this series in the near future, but that is not to say there isn't a chance down the line.

I don't usually buy Koto figures. But something I'd be extremely interested in if you're branching out to the Western market would be figures from Avatar: TLAB and Voltron.
Please make my Space Dad Shiro!

That black panther figure looks A+!

Western figures are so interesting to me, like they’re mostly guys!
