A Year on MFC, A Year of CollectingA Year on MFC, A Year of CollectingDiary

So it's been a year since being on MFC, a year ago now I didn't have a figure, I was a 15 year old who has been into anime since I was 13 who never really had any proper merchandise.

Now I'm 16, passed all of my GCSEs (UK exams) and now studying Art & Design! Along the year I've collected 1 prize figure, 2 scales and one nendoroid.

I thought it'd be a nice thing and guide you through how my bookshelf has changed across the year and explain some things about what I've picked up along the way ^~^ Let's jump into it, shall we?

So on the 30 of December 2017, I posted this photo on my Instagram:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/12/28/2123558.png

Yes! This was how my anime portion of my room looked like. All in one area on my book shelf. I haven't moved out of this area throughout the year but I'm thinking about some things which I'll go into next time.

So yes I did have 2 funkos, and it was actually when Mika's sword was still attached and wasn't attacked by my cat. At this point of my collecting days, It was just a year after staring to collect manga (Yes, I collected over 100 manga within a year, my parents were in shock).

This is what my bookshelf looks like now!:

So yes! I'm on my final shelf of my bookshelf with my manga but also I have some new additions on my self.

You may be asking, why would you still keep everything in one area? I've never liked the idea of having posters on my wall or having an anime room within my bedroom. I like to keep it nice and clean and having it in one area just makes my life 100% more eaiser. Also, this is my parent's house. I don't want to ruin their house if guests come around, etc which I think my parent appreciates greatly.

If I had more room, I would like to add a new bookshelf or area just to put my figures and my merch in general and keep my bookshelf with just manga, but re-thinking that, it would feel like my bookcase would be completely empty and wouldn't have the same feel to it! So I kept it how it is.

So Lord and behold the 2 scales and 1 prize figure.
Natsume was my first figure I got, a prize figure! I brought him on the 12 Jan. Although I didn't tell my Dad so he was a little bit annoyed but luckily my parents and my sisters like him greatly and welcome him!
It's extremely lucky to have parents who accept your interest in anime. Espically them putting up with me spending a ton on manga the year before, it was a breath of fresh air for them.

My second figure I got was Kuroko! I got him second hand for around £40. It was a gift I got myself for passing my GCSEs and I love him dearly. My friend always jokes about how it looks like Kuroko is gonna slam his basketball right into Shizou's nether-regions. It never fails to make me laugh :,)

My third figure I got was Shizou. Honestly I picked him up on a whim by a MFC seller on here who I also brought Kuroko from! His ad was only up for 5 mins and I contacted them. Apparently someone else 3 minutes later was interested as well so I was lucky enough to spot him.
He also costed £40 and I never looked back!

My Dad and my older sister were shocked on how tall he was compared to the rest of my figures (Natsume and Kuroko being around the same height) but they liked him a lot! My Dad was surprised how I got him for a good price. I honestly leant a lot of things from my Dad on getting the best offers, etc. So thank you for ingraining that in my head!

I was supposed to get another figure, I saw another natsume figure on eBay, all authentic as I messaged the seller and it was on for a bid! He was on for extremely good price. [ITEM #455587]

Unfortunately my PayPal wasn't fully linked up to my account, so when I went bidding in the final minuet, I missed him since I needed to sign into my PayPal. It's a shame! My Dad was hoping I could win it as well, cheering me along!
Events like that happen, and yes, I was very sad, I still am now but it's a lesson learnt.

Second shelf:

So yes, I did the bad thing and got another funko, forgive me MFC for I have sinned. But c'mon now, I cannot deny Bill Cipher of all people. Being my favourite childhood show, I couldn't not pick this up.

England was, and is currently, the only nendoroid I have! I pre-ordered him via Middle realm (UK figure store) and he came shortly after his release. If you want my overall opinion on nendoroids, they've grown on me. I still think that they can suit only certain series.

Hetalia being one of guilty pleasures, when I saw England up for pre-orders, I knew I had to have him. He was on of the first nendoroids and thought "That actually suits him".
Problem is now, I want Japan! (Problems always arise, don't they?) And here I am still searching for him. I will find you one day for a good price, I promise!

Third shelf:

Fifth Shelf:

So here's my latest pickup. My first art-book which I got given on Boxing Day. D.Gray-Man is my favourite shounen. Even if I've seen 200+ anime since watching D.Gray-Man, in my heart, nothing can ever replace it. Same goes for the artwork!
I think this is a must have for any D.Gray-Man fan out there! Totally worth it. I never looked back asking for this for Christmas.

Japanese Manga:

So a year back, I only had Fukigen an mononokean vol 1 and Saiki vol 1. Now I have added Saki vol 2-4, Natsume yuujinchou vol 23 + spinoff vol 3 and the D.Gray-Man fanbook as well as the limited edition volume 8 of Seraph of the End! (Along with Drama-CDs!) All of these series have a special place in my heart and one of the main reason why I only buy Jap merch on some of my favourite series!

Expenses

I'm sure there are other people my age, or younger who are into collecting and just doesn't have enough money. I feel broke every time I look into my bank account, I know that feeling!

I brought a Cintiq 13 Pro this year, my most expensive thing I've brought ever in my life. I literally brought shares to afford this. I also opened up art commissions which allowed me to get £100+ towards my Cintiq! I never looked back, but obviously this set me back.
But it also taught me, it's okay to save up and not spend right away once you get it.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/12/28/2123559.jpeg

I don't have much money anymore, and people have stopped asking for commissions and I haven't had one in a couple of months, so I haven't brought much. Espically when Christmas was around the corner after I brought my Cintiq, there was no way I could buy for myself during the time of gifting to others!

So what's next?

Well there's actually 2 things I ordered today (Or now yesterday of the time I'm writing this)! Since getting the D.gray-man artbook, I've decided to pick up both of the Hetalia art books. As an aspiring artist, I didn't know how much I would like art books till now and honestly they give me a huge inspirational push! I think I'd like to pick up other art books across the year! [ITEM #103885 , ITEM #406539]

On my figure list, I'm still upset that I didn't get a chance to order the Akechi Goro or the Allen Walker figures. Mainly because my parents wouldn't let me spend anything over £100 on figures.
With Allen being limited edition, my heart pains that I will never find him. Undoubtedly that's one of the parts I will have to get used to being young and not earning/working for themselves and paying for the bills (Or being a millionaire). But yes, I'm ever hopeful! Maybe one day, a kind stranger will give me one of them, or pay for some of it. I'm ever hopeful for the chance haha!

After picking up the England nendoroid, I think I will pre-order America to be along-side him! I think having a lonesome nendoroid doesn't feel right and I would love to get another one!

Yes! I love the art-style a lot so it's nice to see some of the black and white pages in full colour now. Totally worth it.

Wario54Il y a 1 an#47019389Seeing Gravity Falls referred to as a childhood show surprised me, so I looked it up and it turns out it started airing when I was around your age now. Way to make me feel old! :P
But on the topic of the blog, nice collection! Your display is lovely and your manga collection is truly impressive. Here's to another year of collecting. :)

Gravity Falls was always a show that was kinda my first 'fandom' as you will. I love all the theories and stuff like about the show!
And cheers to another year of collecting to you too!

cakeyIl y a 1 an#46992177This was so nice to read, I love how you have such strong feelings for each and every item! I'm also in the UK, and started collecting when I was 11 (I'm 22 now!). I remember the struggle of first getting into the hobby at such a young age, but my parents have always been incredibly open to it (they always bid on items for me when I was really young, and even now keep an eye out for good deals for me!) This was a really lovely read, I look forward to seeing how your collection evolves!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed reading through it all!
Yeah, I'm incredibly thankful for my family being so open to it all! My parents always message me when they spot anything anime related and message me about it which is really sweet of them haha.

AlexChamaIl y a 1 an#46936792You may have a small collection, but in every paragraph and every sentence I could tell how proud you are and how much you love your collection.
It's also nice to see that you know how to save money and score deals and be patient.
Those are some mighty important life skills, but they will come in handy with collecting as well!
I really enjoyed reading your post and am looking forward to more! Thank you for sharing your journey.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. ^~^
I'm sure I'll be doing some more posts throughout the new year.
I aspire to have my collection to be as nice as other people one day but for now, I'm happy with what I have!
