broken-Toyboxbroken-ToyboxIl y a 1 moisReview
Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review!

Ehhh… well, you know… the usual… picture-heavy and stuff… ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌

Today I’ll be taking a look at ITEM #584103 Alter’s depiction of Eizen from Tales of Berseria. Despite the price tag and the L&E bs I couldn’t not get him. I’ll spare you the details since…. Well, who cares, right? But Tales of Berseria is probably my favorite Tales of game and I already had Edna waiting for her brother to come home. ♥
So, without further ado let’s get to the nitty-gritty. :3

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
After Sorey and Mikleo I actually didn’t expect Eizen to arrive in a cardboard box, but he did. I like the somewhat ominous looking horizon they picked for the background and the black decorations sure fit the overall look well (maybe hinting at the “Reaper’s Curse”?). A big window spans the front and left side while smaller ones can be found at the top and the right. With these windows and the overall design I personally could’ve done without the printed pictures of the figure, but it still fits in with the overall design.

We get a very standard blister, nothing noteworthy.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
There are only 2 parts to the figure: Eizen and the base (no instruction sheet). As you can see he can stand fine on his own. Ok, “fine” might be saying too much since he’s rather wobbly without the base.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194754.jpeg

I’m not really one for circle bases or ones with the character name on it, but I like the contrast between gold and black (plus the font looks really neat). The Dhaos design is nice as well, but… shiny black bases… getting fingerprints and the like off them is always such a pain. -_-

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Now for the spinaround…
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194797.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194813.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194830.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194845.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194859.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194880.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194896.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194913.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Eizen’s expression seems rather stoic to me, maybe just slightly grim too? Whatever you may call it it sure is a fitting expression for him.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194926.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194939.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194959.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194963.jpeg
I don’t really have much to complain about the hair, the shading is nice, and it looks overall very much like him. Still, that seam isn’t really something to compliment and I’d have liked for the tips to be just a bit pointier.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
His clothes don’t leave much to be desired though, all layers are sculpted in minute detail, with enough shading and folds to look realistic. The visible collarbone and neck tendons add another nice touch the figure.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194968.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551194995.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195013.jpeg
The attention to detail here sure impresses me, just look at the silver buttons for example.

Those puffy sleeves look incredible as well. The fabric looks heavy and thick, but my highlight is the way how the fabric at the cuffs stretches against the buttons.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195021.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195027.jpeg

Those girths at the sides of the coat and the silvery accessories at the back that kinda could be part of a skeleton look mostly good (especially the curling girths), but they’re not perfectly painted. Well enough (the paint bleed is barely visible even up close), but not perfect. X3
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195032.jpeg

Knowing Alter the weathered look on his gloves is indeed intentional and not a result of laziness, but I wasn’t sure at first (still very impressive imo). X3
The weathered look extends to the golden bangle too (which can be moved around btw).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195043.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195050.jpeg

As a whole I really love Eizen’s coat, the paint is spot on and the sculpt looks so life-like. The way it billows and creases just enough to give off a heavy impression (maybe leather?). Only the cuts at his shoulders don’t really wow me, but whatever (I’ll hardly ever see them anyway).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195069.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195090.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195096.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195101.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195106.jpeg

Again, the silver paint at the buckles isn’t 100% even, but it’s just a minor complaint. Otherwise the belts look great.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195124.jpeg

The pants continue the realistic look of his clothes and I’ll leave it at that. X3
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195142.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195150.jpeg
One thing bothers me a bit (seeing how it’s not visible it’s kinda whatever though) and that’s the transition from the legs to the butt. It just looks weird. Still props to Alter for making parts of the white shirt visible under the coat.

Eizen’s leather boots look fantastic as well, fitting the rest of the outfit. Only the gold paint looks a tad iffy in places, but I really don’t care (partly because I’ve come to terms with the fact that manufacturers seem to be unable to pull it off perfectly).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195157.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195162.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Finally let’s do some size comparisons.
Eizen reaches a height of ~21,5cm (excluding the base), his supposed character height is 187cm so he seems a bit short.
Granted you’ll have no trouble displaying him next to other 1/8 figures (unless they’re incredibly out of scale), but let’s face it he “should” be as big as ITEM #236266.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195179.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195195.jpeg

Ofc he looks best to his cute little sister Edna ITEM #331483.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195215.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195235.jpeg

1/7 scales or bigger might be an issue if you plan to display them together, but it could look worse imo (ok, apart from ITEM #464791).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195257.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195277.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1551195295.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
After Sorey and Mikleo I was a bit worried about the QC on Eizen, but luckily those fears were mostly unfounded. The few small flaws I found were exactly that "small" and don’t bother me much as he looks really great overall. More than anything I’m glad to be able to display him together with Edna (finally). :3 I didn’t feel great about his price tag (well, I still don’t) and the LE stuff that seems to be getting more normal...
Yet I can't say regret my purchase, not even slightly.

That's it for this review! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it! ^^
If you don’t mind I’d love some constructive criticism,
but if you don’t feel like posting any your thoughts on the figure are also very welcome. :3

Gabri (Il y a 1 mois) #52598009i know, POP serie had a drastical drop in quality too in favor of quantity for like 5 years (and that's why i stopped collecting 5 years ago, because they only produced shitty poses for shitty charas and didn't give a damn about producing quality material). Now they started almost from 0 with the new Maximum line which features great quality, great charas, great poses and a vastity of available poses that will only catch the fans like me.
If they'd do the same for the most famous brands, yet most poor in merchandise, they'd make a lot of people happy, but it seems like OP gains them more money. Megahouse is a huge money grabbing company, unfortunatelly, and the hate is well deserved. I'm sorry for that arsene and mew vs mewtwo, the pose looked great on paper too :/
Still, i can't do less then admire maximum line. I wish they'd reserve the same treatment to GEM line. If megahouse were to apply into producing quality figures for our most loved brands, they'd have few competition(even compared to alter, indeed because of the vast amount of poses they let you display)
Well that kind of matches with MH’s overall drop in quality from what I observed. I bet the Maximum line is even more overpriced than their other recent offerings though (not to insult anyone, but figure prices in general are getting out of hand).

Even if OP gets them more money in some cases it’s like they never even tried to do decent work for other franchises. Maybe that could be a real goldmine to them? There’s definitely more franchises popular enough than just OP. It’s just sad when you see scales with inflated price tags next to prize figures and the latter win out in terms of QC…

It’s not like I’ll ever get to experience their supposedly great quality line as long as they shit on everything that’s not Maximum (did you see the prototype for ITEM #713431 that’s just sad). It’s great for those fans that actually have an interest in it, but for all the others it just sucks.

broken-Toybox (Il y a 1 mois) #52551771But that's just one series they favor, which kind of sucks for people like me who don't care about OP. Their Arsene and Mew/Mewtwo figure (both quite recent) actually made me angry because of the garbage QC (and fans of Sailor Moon for example have it even worse). It's nice to know that they can be decent, but I almost feel discriminated, because I'll never see their good work (they did some decent/good figure in the past, but new figures are something to be wary about).
Another face would've been nice for sure, but at this point it's become crying over spilled milk. The price tag sure is painful and I did hesitate before ordering (wouldn't do it for just any character either), but in the end I still caved (no regrets!).

Gabri (Il y a 1 mois) #52551460yeah, MH has pretty bad reputation i noticed, but they do make good figures, i own many of the POP line and the maximum line just got even better (and i'm into OP since i was 12 also ahahah). They could do something more with the other lines, like Hunter x Hunter or Death Note, those animes that lack of merch for how popular they are
Anyway, i was reading velvet would come with the demonic arm too and to me it's nonesense to give her only the cold face, the angry one fits it way better, and if we wanna have her gentle or calmly determined i think that still doesn't look right, to me at least. Alter makes beautiful figures, almost perfectly crafted and painted, why not add also some more faces? i mean, the price is high enough to justify at least an added expression
Though it's really beautiful and even with all this i was tempted to PO her...

broken-Toybox (Il y a 1 mois) #52550431I actually disagree about that a bit (I should since I ordered her), while your assessment of Velvet isn't wrong it also depends on which part of the story we're talking about. It's not a perfect likeness, but it captures part of her character quite well imo and I'm really fond of her expression. Ultimately it's a matter of taste so it's not worth arguing about it.^^
Maximum or not I have serious trust issues if it comes to Megahouse by now (plus I'm not really into One Piece and find it disgusting that they only put effort into that line).

Gabri (Il y a 1 mois) #52550108yup, the one going for like 250€ in europe, 18800Yen, way too much for that. The sculpt is clearly gonna be one of the best, painting as well, but the expression doesn't catch me, it's just so cold, while velvet is one of the most passionate chara in the game.
If i gotta pay so much to import a figure (i think it would be over 200€), it has to be the best. See Katakuri (Maximum) or the new coming Zoro(also Maximum), that's something worth spending 200€ for, something that catch my favourite charas and also is (near) perfect in painting and sculpting

Lucky you getting a leftover one. ^^ Btw which Velvet are you referring to? The Alter one with the ridiculous price tag?

Gabri (Il y a 1 mois) #52547593guilty for sure, i won't be able to feed my children! (joking :P)
i didn't get the same problem with raven anyway, i love that one (and actually just ordered a sealed one from a store nearby who had leftovers, can't wait to see him irl), also not with yuri and Velvet, but velvet's face is not catching me too much... i hope for a double head, one with her usual angry expression for demonic arm, that would insta-sell to me

broken-Toybox (Il y a 1 mois) #52543895Well, the pose is pretty standard, so I can't say I don't understand where you're coming from. On the other hand, he looks fairly good next to Edna the way he is, a more "interesting" pose might have been disadvantageous in that regard. That being said Edna looks fine next to other figures as well so it's not like you "need" him per se. :3
Thank you! *~* Though I'm not sure if I really should be thanking you or if saying sorry would be more appropriate. x3

Well. the thing is...
Voir le spoilerCacher le spoilerBerseria is the prequel to what happens (Berseria takes place some hundred years earlier) in Zestiria and at that time Eizen wasn't a dragon yet.
