! There is a wall of text in the beginning! If you want to see the figure + pictures and not the background information, you can scroll down a bit. ;) !

This figure easily gives pantyshots, which is why I marked this review as NSFW, proceed with caution!

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Hokuhou Seiki (also known as Northern Princess) ENTRY #75908 from Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ ENTRY #52215 ! This figure ITEM #314587 is a prize made by FuRyu ENTRY #7699 .

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

Kantai Collection (translated 'Fleet Collection') is a browser game in which you have cute personifications of Warships to build a fleet with. As their commander, you 'collect' these girls and fight battles which are a combination of strategy and action. Kantai Collection became popular very fast and within 2 years of the game release, an anime was already getting made. As of now, Kantai Collection is still a huge multimedia project, with also games on other platforms, manga and light novels expanding the universe. More recently there has been some competition from 'Azur Lane'. Azur Lane is a very different game when it comes to gameplay, but it also uses warship personifications and has characters designed after the same ships as many Kantai Collection ones.

Northern Princess (Hokuhou Seiki), sometimes cutely nicknamed Hoppou-chan is one of the Abyssal fleet, the enemy characters in the game. She was released together in the game with two other Hime (Princess ships). Shortly after her release Hoppou-chan became incredibly popular for being the cutests looking of the Abyssals so far, many people felt really sad to have to defeat her. A fun fact is that the small plane she holds originally belonged to a good ship girl, Ryuujou ENTRY #53746 . Normally these Abyssal girls their cool or sexy looks would 'lure' you, but Hoppou-chan tricks you into being a cute and small girl.

The reason why and how I got her

I got this figure as a gift from my local Secret Santa in 2017, if you want to see the unboxing of that one, check out this blog: BLOG #40999 . Although I was not specifically looking for this figure, I love the Abyssal designs in general and was very happy to get this figure!

Original art

There is no artwork with this specific posing shown where the figure was modelled after. Most of her in-game used artwork is either a lot more cute or a lot more fierce than how this figure is. Most similar to this figure is the following artwork:

And you can see that especially shading-wise they stuck to this look!

A bit simple, as with most prize figure boxes, but there is a nice window at the front and some cute artwork at the back. The weird barcode sticker at the bottom left of the back of the box is probably from the local shop the figure was bought from and shouldn't be on there if you buy the figure from Japan.

Even though there are no bootlegs made of this figure as far as we know, it's good to keep in mind that there is a Kadokawa sticker of authenticity on the back of the box.

The blisters of this figure are quite big, but so is the figure itself! Everything seems to be hold quite well and it's nice to see a blister packaged prize figure with so many manufacturers nowdays opting for cardboard inner pieces and only having the figures in a plastic bag.

She comes with a small instruction sheet. I appreciate figure manufacturers adding this, because as you will see below I first assembled her incorrectly and only realized and fixed this mid-shoot. Don't be like me!

The figure comes with the following pieces:
- Main figure
- Main base
- Her two companions (I actually do not know if they have a name?)
- Big transparant rod for supporting her biggest ship part
- Two small transparant rods to hold her companions.

Please refer to pictures down below in the review for the actual good way to assemble her. The transparant rod for the biggest ship part needs to be pushed under the ship part.

Now for the figure herself, my first impression of her was that she was definitely impressive, being so big and in such a wide pose for a prize figure! I was also surprised a bit at how ecchi this figure is especially from the sides and back. From the front she looks very cute and innocent, but her underwear is clearly visible from other angles!

Looking at all the details!

Wow, Hoppou-chan's face is impressive! Very nicely put on decals and good mouth sculpt. She doesn't have any eyebrows (just like her character design), but there is an sculpt indicating her brow muscles.

The sculpt of the hair shows a lot of movement and is surprisingly not clunky at all for a prize figure.

Her wide open eyes really give off a yandere vibe for me.

The sculpt of her neck- and breast-piece looks very nice as well. I also like how there is a difference in shade between her skin and dress (it might be a bit hard to see on the pictures, but her skin is a bit more grey-ish, while the dress is really white).

Now we have also come to the biggest flaw of this figure, her hands. Right through the middle of both hands there is a huge seamline and with my specific copy I even see a spot where a plastic tag would have been when she came from the mold. Now, it is true that she is wearing mittens and you could call it a 'detail' from the sewing line, but for me personally it's a bit too much.

Her other hand has the same seamline that is not cleaned up very well. Luckily the other parts here are very good looking. The small plane is sculpted and painted wonderfully and the studs on the end of her gloves look very neat too.

Her dress is sculpted very well, and although low in detail, there is a lot of movement showing.

Hoppou-chan has very delicately posed legs and feet.

There is a seamline through the side of her leg, but most of it is hidden by the skin color paint. Her thigh-band and panties have a bit of paint drooping out, but it looks pretty good for such small details on a prize figure.

She wears very low-rise panties. They are very good looking on her and make sense with the attachment of her ship parts to her body.

Getting all the pegs from her feet into the base required quite some force.

Her feet are very small, something common with anime characters their designs and which returns in a lot of my figures (to be honest, not a very big fan of it). The posing of the feet however is very nicely done and individual toes are sculpted. There are some seamlines on the sides and backside of the feet, but nothing too bad considering the small size.

Now her ship parts (this time with the transparant rod correctly assembled) are very impressive. There is a lot of shading to be seen and the sculpt is very high in detail.

The attachment of the ship parts to Hoppou-chan herself looks very good, with one more organical looking 'tail' and one mechanical 'tail'.

There are also two small companions at the front of her base. They don't come with any peg in the figure itself and they are round balls, so you have to be really careful to not knock them off their pegs when you move this figure around or clean it.

The general shine on these two is amazing. They seem to have the same sculpt, but the shading on them is very different. Specifically with my copy, one has some paint mishaps, while the other is practically flawless. I wonder if the high difference in shading for both of these two companions is on purpose or that it's just because they might be touched up by different people with different styles in the factory.

Let's get to the points and scores!

The Points

Positive
- Really good sculpt for a prize figure, especially on all the ship parts.
- Comes with a good box for protection (not common nowadays for prize figures).

Neutral
- Paint is a bit too basic on Hoppou-chan herself, but this is heavily outweighed by the quality of the paint on the ship parts.

Negative
- Really obnoxious seamlines through the middle of her hands.

The Scores

Sculpting 9/10
Amaing sculpt on this figure, with only some letdowns in small seamlines here and there.

Painting 8/10
Also amazingly done paint, especially on the ship parts, but feels a slightly bit lacking on the human parts.

Posing 8/10
Lovely posing, it's very wide and those yandere eyes will attract a lot of people for sure!

Base 8/10
Very basic in looks, but they thought well about extra rods for good placement. Also, the base is the exact shape of the figure, so it does not take up anymore space than needed.

Packaging 8/10
Holds the figure well and has a nice design and good protection for a prize figure box.

Enjoyment 8/10
Especially for getting her as a surprise gift, my enjoyment of this figure is very high! The first time I saw her in the database I thought that her eyes might be a bit too creepy, but they look wonderful in person and I love having her on display on my Abyssal shelf!

Conclusion

Overall, Hoppou-chan has impressive quality for being a prize figure, although I personally find the differences in quality between the human figure and the ship parts a bit too much. Still, she is a very nice figure to combine in your display with other Abyssals! Recommended for fans of this character or Abyssals in general.

Availability

This figure goes for slightly higher prices than your average prize figure and can be found for 2-2,5K on average. I would say that she is definitely worth that price if you like her!

And to finish it!

Most of my Abyssals are still in storage, but I have her together displayed with my Kuubo Wo-kyuu of which I made a picture-display blog not very long ago: BLOG #42081 . As I unbox more of my Abyssal cuties, this shelf will soon get fuller!

Being put net to Kuubo Wo-kyuu (who is from the same manufacturer), you can see that Hoppou-chan is quite small, but her ship parts really make up for that! I might display Hoppou-chan a bit further away from Kuubo Wo-kyuu when I have all my Abyssals unpacked though, because with the high amount of shading on Kuubo Wo-kyuu's otherwise white parts, Hoppou-chan looks a lot more bland than I like her to.

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next review will be about an older scaled figure, Shoujo Ripple ITEM #5600 ! I actually joked before with VICTORVIPER about who of us would be the first one to review her, and it seems he beat me to it just recently! As my review is about 75% done I think I won't read his until I finish typing mine and then read it afterwards so we can have a good comparison which I will include in the blog.

I hope you enjoyed this review, you could also check my other figure reviews when interested! Here are a few of my recent ones:

victorviper (Il y a 28 jours) #55441274I'd had my review of Ripple 98% written for over a year, and since hardly anyone had posted any blogs for a couple of days, that gave me the incentive to finally finish it off.
It'll be interesting to compare notes on that figure.

I found it interesting how I recognized your 'earlier' photography style in your review. :) And about the figure, we have quite some similarities, but differences too! But I'll stop here before I spoiler what I'm going to post tomorrow. ;)

Sakura0055 (Il y a 29 jours) #55283601This is going to be very cliche but definitely read the manga too! Story finishes before it actually starts in the anime. It's the only manga I've read completely. But the anime is nice because you get to know characters and hear them^^ Shiro's voice is too cute!

I will probably get to both! :D Thanks for the recommendation. ^^

victorviper (Il y a 29 jours) #55374986The "organic" parts are interesting and creepy.
It's interesting that her white skin seems to show mold lines quite easily. You'd think the white finish would tend to hide that sort of thing.

Yeah, it's something I love with the designs of the Abyssals. :) It's even more 'extreme' looking with Hoppou, considering she is so cute. ;)

It's a bit hard to capture on camera but her skin is white grey-ish. Maybe the grey boosts the visibility of the seamlines as grey paint is also used to capture 3D better?

By the way, I almost finished my review of Ripple, planning on uploading tomorrow. :)

Deadman Wonderland is a series I've had on my watch-list for a while, but never got to it. Shiro definitely looks very similar indeed!

Sakura0055 (Il y a 29 jours) #55281077Great review!
She reminds me of Shiro from Deadman Wonderland. It's like her as a child. Eyes, hair, skin, even the gloves. Wish she had a figure too..
