Commentaires Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu - Yang Wen-li - ARTFX J - 1/8 (Kotobukiya)

  • Those are some pretty heavy seamlines, even for a Kotobukiya piece! Especially that right arm makes it look like it should have been possible to swap out an alternative arm.

But ah, in the end, if it's a series you love and no other manufacturers will think about making a scale, Kotobukiya is there for you, and most of the times with prices below 12K. You just can't hate them, I feel like I will be forever in debt to Koto for making scales of the male YGO characters. :)

YangWen-LiIl y a 7 mois#72426758I can not more highly recommend the original OVAs, I'm one of the lucky ones that bought the expensive Sentai set they released a while back, but it is also available on HiDive for streaming. I so love the 80s and 90s OVA style. As you say, modern anime is a little too clean and sleek (I have yet to watch the new version, though I will). You can really appreciate the craftsmanship of the hand-painted anime cels (I own several), in addition to the classical music soundtrack, and the incredible voice actors. It's a true classic. It may seem daunting at first, but the amazing characters alone should win anyone over . Even people not into anime could get into it I think. So spread the word!Woah, I'm really envious now, I'd love to own the Sentai set as well and those cels are priceless treasures. At least I got myself the novels though. :3
I feel the new design makes the characters lose a lot of their charm and personality imo (they're like random bishonen a, b and c to me). The old designs were already attractive imo, in a different way and it just works so much better. Needless to say that I agree with your other points as well.
Though I'm pretty sure it's not me you wanted to tell that anyway. X3

ishidoroIl y a 7 mois#72426610oh wow. what a nice surprise. a logh figure review! thanks for making this figure review in detail! it was really difficult to tell with just limited pictures on mfc so i'm really grateful for this! as a logh fan i wish this figure's quality would be flawless but i'm getting it anyway bc i feel like this is the only best yang wen-li's scale we'll ever get. missed kotobukiya's first logh release, and i'm getting the re-release one so hopefully this time they will fix those minor flaws. wish they would consider re-releasing reinhard too.Thank you! :3
I'm glad I could be of help. Ofc a flawless figure would be great, but beggars can't be choosers and it's still a good figure. As a fellow fan I hope they fix their QC, but seeing how they didn't fix the skirt gap on ITEM #12 after 5(!) rereleases, I wouldn't get my hopes up tbh.
As for Reinhard... I'm sure he'll get a rerelease eventually because of Koto's track record. :3

broken-ToyboxIl y a 7 mois#72364351For all its drama the series can be charmingly funny at times and I love it. You know I have to say this, but if you don't mind the good ol' 80's/90's visuals I highly recommend watching the OVA. Ofc the fights look way better and polished (as do the characters) in the 2018 version, but the charm of the characters in particular gets a little lost in the clean and sleek new look.

galablueIl y a 7 mois#72363124I think you hit the nail on the head with the mention of a prize figure. When I first saw how flimsy the box was, I thought it was one step up from a prize figure. I kind of think this is exactly what this scale is ... I'm also grateful to Koto for making figures no one else would -- especially male ones. However, they were a little lazy with this figure with the seams and all the bubbles. Some of the painting is a little lazy also (but definitely not the shading).Well, with amazing prize figures in my collection that can boast at least similar quality what can I say other than that I think you have a point there. However, I love the series and the character to a point where I just can't care that much about it anymore (at least not past the point of the flaws being a small nuisance). It's like my head says one thing while my heart says something completely different. ヽ(゜~゜o)ノ

kojuuroIl y a 7 mois#72363038Wow a LOGH review! That was an unexpected surprise!
Our favourite functioning alcoholic looks great! I've been meaning to pick him up to join my Reinhard and Kircheis. Truthfully, of the three I think Yang looks the best, and the sculpt really captures his demeanour and personality very well!
I feel your pain with the flimsy boxes. The store I bought Kircheis from while reputable, had the box in really bad shape, which was a bit of a shame. In general I find Kotobukiya's packaging to be very... basic.
For me, I feel like Kotobukiya could do a bit better on the shading department for this line, but honestly I'm just glad to at least have a proper scale of these guys :)
I hope it was a pleasant one. :3
He sure does (I'd totally be down for a figure of him sitting cross-legged during one of the more challenging fights too though). It's a bit sad that the rerelease doesn't come with any of the preoder bonuses anymore though. Even if the bonus head isn't your thing amiami had a Free Planets Alliance flag if I remember correctly and I kind of regret not getting it back then.
They can do awesome packages like for ITEM #675822, but this? It's like they're meant to damaged in transit...
They could improve that as well, I'm okay with Yang's paint personally but normally they either way overdo it or don't apply enough shading. When all's said and done my heart isn't really into the complaints though, they're at the back of my mind, but just having LoGH figures still seems like a small miracle to me. :3

YangWen-LiIl y a 7 mois#72363036Thank you for your nice review of Yang! It's always nice to see that other LOGH fans are out there. Yang is my favorite character of all time, and I never thought he'd get a figure, so even with the minor imperfections, it's the centerpiece of my figure collection! I only wish they would do more characters, I would love to see a Schonkopf, Julian, etc.Thank you! :3
Well, it's become a bit hard to say so outright with LoGH apparently turning into the epitome of "elitism"... At that point I decided online dedicated anime/manga communities aren't something I want to further concern myself with.
I'm in the same boat, I can complain about the flaws all I want, but my heart isn't in it. Even the typo... it's just too funny, so whatever. x3
If I had one wish that'd be it as well and I think they'd be popular as well, so maybe... one day... :3

Yay, space drama. I love space/sci-fi series. I have not seen the original series but I watched the 2018 version.
As for the figure, I actually like the pants... Up until you flip him around >.<
I do like his carefree look and it's definitely the "darn, I guess I gotta do my duties" expression.
For all its drama the series can be charmingly funny at times and I love it.

Well, thankfully this is not one of the male figures that prompts you to displays it from that angle, so it could be worse (but still...).
And that fits him so well imo, they really did a great job on the face and pose. <3

SenbeiIl y a 7 mois#72363022Ahh what a great review! Yang's getting a rerelease and I really want him but that would mean I need to get Reinhard and Kircheis as well and their prices... ;__; One day...
Also I would love if they continued making more OVA LOGH figures like Julian, Attemborough, Poplan, Mittermayer and Reuenthal... heck even give me Oberstein haha
    Thank you! :3
I was quite surprised by the prices when I was randomly browsing my owned figures one day (before Yangs rerelease) actually. I never expected that tbh, but it made me somehow really happy (not in a I've-got-a-rare-good kind of way, but because there's some love for the series and characters). Tbh I think both Reinhard and Kircheis will get a rerelease eventually, albeit w/o the bonuses.
Give me all of them, also Schönkopf... heck I'd propably even buy Bittenfeld. x3
