(੭ˊ͈ ꒵ˋ͈)੭̸*✧⁺˚ Magical girl time!

You heard me right. I pulled my boxes out of storage and this was one of the ones on top! So it's time to start reviewing the show that pulled me back into anime in highschool and the show that got me started on my figure collecting journey. Today we'll be reviewing ITEM #78405, the second figure in my collection (right after Madoka!).

I absolutely love this figure -- but please note, her peg is definitely broken. She has two plastic pegs, and the one on the right appears to have snapped, but the one on the left is still going strong. I've moved houses twice and was able to remove her from her base, but I have no clue what's happened these past 3 years that I've been living here! The weather here is so much better than my previous two houses (both at the beach), so who knows. Anyhow, I'm team anti-plastic peg now ψ(`Д´)ψ

So I grew up watching anime, mostly shonen like Yu Yu Hakusho, but I took a small break throughout middle school and high school. Suddenly, like a wave washing over me, I got back into it ... and here I am today! Madoka Magica was like crack to me, and to be honest the revelation that Voir le spoilerCacher le spoilerHomura is only strong because her wish over and over to save Madoka, and that's why Madoka is weak is one of the best reveals in all of anime. I still think about it this day. So, if you're looking for a gateway anime that's really amazing -- pick this one!

Homura was my second figure, I believe, so I've had her for almost 6 years now ... wow, time sure does fly. I purchased her off of Amazon (which I clearly don't do now lol) for a pretty good price and started my little collection of two, which has blossomed now.

Homura is still one of my favorite girls on the show, and I'm so happy to have this figure in my collection ... even though I think she has a broken peg lol.

So all of the Madoka Magica girls have giant boxes. Homura's is a little thinner than the rest I believe. I really like the purple theme of Homura, and it fits true to the character. Her box features one large window in the front, one medium window on one of the sides, and one small window on the top of the box (not pictured). Sadly, no original art is featured. Check out the spoiler for some more images of the box.

The figure also comes with a set of instructions and two different posing opportunities. I love to load up my figure as much as possible, so I've chosen to pose her with her gun and shield. Check out the spoiler to see the extra arms and instructions.

I really love the detailing on her hands, it's one of my favorite things about the figure overall. I also really love her gem and the shading on her sleeves. This color might be hard to get depth in without looking washed out.

Homura looks pretty complicated to put together! These instructions are pretty comprehensive though.

Ah, Homura-chan in all of her glory. Check out the spoiler for a 360 of her!

Starting from the base and working our way up...

The bases for all of the Madoka girls in this set feature thin, round, plastic discs. Homura's is colored purple to go along with her theme. I find that this color in particular doesn't get as scratched as the others and also doesn't collect as much dust.

Homura features diamond shapes up her dark stockings. I find mine to be painted pretty well on both sides. I like the length that this gives her, making her legs look even longer than they already are. It also helps because the stockings are pretty monotone and also very shiny.

Her skirt ruffles nicely, looking as if a breeze is blowing through on a stormy night. She's ready to go into battle! I just love her skirt detailing, and you'll see with the rest of her outfit but she has great motion for a stationary figure.

Obligatory "up pants" shot, even though she pretty much has no underwear ... they still sculpted it lol!

I really love how her sailor shirt overlays on her skirt. The skirt itself is such a pretty dusty color but doesn't look dirty in any way. And the painting is really clean on the trim of the shirt!

Looking from the back, Homura has a pretty dynamic ribbon to go along with her skirt sculpt. I really love how the back of her shirt flaps up.

Again, I just love this outfit ... the back of her collar is really gorgeously done, and even though it's hidden by her hair they took the time to sculpt it nicely!

Homura's hair could use some more shading, it looks a little flat sometimes, but if you light it properly it doesn't.

She does have a rather large and noticeable head seam. This is one of my least favorite parts about the figure, BUT you can't really notice it unless you're staring straight at it.

In fact, the seam looks very nice from the side, even showing off her cute little ear! I love this ear.

Homura's shield is pretty standard but nothing to complain about. It's true to design of the show.

*Ahem*. Please excuse me, but I'm kind of drooling over the hand sculpt on this figure. I mean, maybe it's nothing to write home about ... but I find her fingers are so delicate, and they're so precisely sculpted as if she's about to do something with her gun. I also just love her soul gem and how they painted it on the back of her hand.

Looking at the gun up close, I think it could have used some more shading, but it's really well done for an optional accessory!

Again, look at those fingers! Ahhh! I have a bit of scuffing on her top hand, but I really don't care. The articulation is beautiful, and I love how her hair swoops around.

But what really gets me about this figure is her expression. From different angles she has a different expression, and I love it. I also really love the amount of blush she has on her face. It's something that some figures (*ahem, Hachikuji...) are missing.

I really love the color of her eyes, also. They are such a pretty amethyst color and almost shine when you move her. Her bangs frame her face perfectly -- that hair! Ahhh, I just love her so much. ۹(˒௰˓)۶

How could I possibly do this review without comparing Homura to the love of her life, Madoka (ITEM #78404)? This is how I display the two on my shelf, as if Homura could protect the ever cheerful Madoka at any given time. Don't mess with her waifu!

I decided to put Homura next to my other grumpy character who I love, Hiei (ITEM #91356). Blue and purple are close enough, and I actually used to display these two on my shelf next to each other. They'd make a good couple of Homura wasn't preoccupied...

I love this figure. Yeah, I like her on my shelf, but after photographing her I love her even more. I love her hands and her eyes the best, along with her amazing outfit. She's really beautiful, and if you're a fan of the show I would recommend getting her.

The only thing about this figure I don't care for is that hair seam. I also have to remove some points for this base. Although it's small in size, doesn't take up much room on my shelf, and is balanced, I just can't stand the fact that there is the possibility for broken pegs. Not quite sure how the snap occurred as she's rarely moved ... but it seems like this just happens to older figures. •́ε•̀٥ I also feel like her hair could have been shaded just a little better.

Hope you guys have an awesome day and thanks for reading my review! (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Thanks for the review!

For me, what makes me go "yup that's Homura" is her black tights and her silky black hair. GSC did a great job on her sculpt and made her cool and silent beauty come alive for this figure (and you did a good job showcasing that though the photos)

BlazeDazzleDusk (Il y a 1 mois) #75563108She looks beautiful, Great review! This figure really captures Homura’s personality well especially her expression.

I love how when she's viewed from the side I get more of a little smile blush from her, but when she's viewed from the front she's more serious. Just a great figure!

I Always wanted this figure, but there are always other figures that come first haha
But Damn someday I'm gonna buy this figure, well actually I want to buy the whole set!!! Someday!

Thank you! I would say be careful of buying used and double check the base/peg situation for any of the girls, since I am having peg issues. But they all look amazing next to each other, their clothes have such amazing details.

MadamMantis (Il y a 1 mois) #75532335I have the same figure but the You Are Not Alone version (ITEM #140902). I really think these figures show how badass Homura is!
Nice review too!

I love Homura with twintail braids, that's a great figure with lots of different pieces and display options!

denpaloli (Il y a 1 mois) #75530300so many years later and this line gsc did for the girls **still** looks so good. insane quality eh? thanks for the review, my middle school self that gasped in awe of this set when it was slowly going into production was awakened lolol

I agree. They still look amazing. I'm only missing one for the set but have decided that 4 is enough for me, since they all look amazing next to each other. I'm not quite sure which one of the girls is my favorite, but I just love how many posing options each one has. It's shocking and I feel like some new figures could learn from them!

Solarstormflare (Il y a 1 mois) #75530562Nice!! I used to have this one, but I sold her so i could get the one like this but with the red hair ribbon and twintails. I actually regret it since for whatever reason there isn't a hand to hold the gun included, but the gun was in the box anyway? And that also ended up being my fave pose for her

Hm, that's weird that there's no pose to hold the gun even though the gun is involved? I do love Homura with twintails though. Ah, she's such a great character!
