Commentaires question about GK pic uploads

  • pyokoIl y a 27 jours#80286308If you upload pics of the unbuild kit I would choose bootleg. However when you want to show your painted kits I would mark them kits&custom, because I think the focus clearly should be on your work and what you achieved.
Also, while I support any artists I can with buying kits directly from them, in the end very few kits are obtainable outside of WF.

Thanks for your comment. I have been doing a little bit more research and I agree with you. It seems the most typical way to actually get a kit is to go and buy it yourself at WF or have a proxy go and buy it for you. If you end up buying it 2nd hand it seems like the prices skyrocket, and the circle isn't really getting that cash anyway. Seems confusing and I wish there was an easier way for people outside of Japan to support the creators.

Giving €€€ to scalpers* on Yahoo.jp is not supporting the maker any more than getting a recast, at least I think that.
(*shortly after WF a lot of kits pop up at often crazy prices)

As for older kits, some are available from time to time through Yahoo.jp or Mandarake, but many never show up and buying a recast is the only way to ever get them.

I think in the end people have to decide for themselves.

Note that yeah bootlegs are awful awful for the makers as they're all small circles usually but if you already have them for practice, what can ya do? There's also kits that are just so far out of production (old home sailor moon kits...) That obtaining them is either super duper stupid expensive or unreasonable. I side more with buying officials but you just can't in some cases...

Thank you so much! I am really excited to try to build one, as I love doing model kits and paper theaters, and my dad used to do garage kits (not Japanese ones though) when he was younger, so I think it'll be a fun project. And yes, I think if it's a new kit that is coming out, you should of course buy it from the source and support them, but what are you supposed to do if a kit is 8-10 years old and doesn't exist any more? It's very confusing! Especially because with scales, scales can break but they can still exist ... a kit needs to be "NIB" or not really used before for a newbie to put it together (I know people can strip the kit and remake it). I think it's more difficult to find old kits that haven't been used.

I'd honestly put them under kits and customs. So many people in the community do as they've received hate in PM's for making their work then putting them under bootlegs. And unlike prepainted, you can't tell after you've finished the project!

I can't wait to see what you do regardless! I love seeing new people in the community :3

Demigod_DanIl y a 29 jours#80250189Err, on a slightly side topic....if someone forged the head of 1 official figure onto the body of another official figure, does this qualify as a recast / bootleg as well or does this have an entirely different label? If I were to post pics of these then I'd have to tag them correctly :P like maybe I'd have to just tag both the official figures instead for example (if posting pics / talking about this is even allowed at all lol).
Photos like that would be considered "Kits&Customs" according to the FAQ:
Quote"Kits&Customs* - Pictures of your kits, custom made figures, self-painted GKs, repainted bootleg PVC and everything related (tools, kit parts and assembly sheets)."
    Examples: PICTURE #1765188, PICTURE #2135981, PICTURE #1450179

As seen in the examples, it looks like it's expected to link to all related figures whose parts are being used.

Apparently repainted bootlegs can use that category too?? I was surprised to see that... Edit: Oof misread there. There's a line drawn between bootleg PVCs and recasts.

Isn't that basically a custom figure at that point?

kyoshinheiIl y a 29 jours#80249831Yep, I think the pics should be marked as bootlegs. I've seen it at least once in the database ITEM #285881
Also a quick word of warning, GK recast are a polarizing subject here on MFC and talks related to them often get taken down. I'd say you're alright as long as you're upfront and avoid promoting it. Recast GK leech off the work of small circles, not big companies. That should never be encouraged (even less than regular bootlegs).
At any rate, avoid advertising where you got them from or even mention it, that's usually a direct ticket to oblivion.

Thank you for the warning! I am going to be 100 percent honest I am not sure if they are recasts or not, but I am just assuming they are recasts since a lot of GKs seem pretty rare and expensive and I got these for a decent price. And I probably won't know until I have it in my hands anyhow. I got them mostly just to practice since I wouldn't want to mess up if I bought an actual nice GK. I am not even sure how to go about purchasing actual verified GKs in the first place but obviously would prefer to do so in the future if I end up liking the hobby. But again TY for the kind warning words!
