Crunchyroll Absorbs Right StufCrunchyroll Absorbs Right StufNews

Consider this a sequel news post to MINTBUNNY's Crunchyroll Acquires Rightstuf.

According to ANN, Right Stuf is "phasing out its store" and all products will be moved to the Crunchyroll Store on October 10. There will be a holiday sale at the Crunchy Store similar to those RS has held in the past, but there will be changes.

Apparently, the Crunchy Store will carry everything that RS used to, except for live-action media. There's more details in the ANN link.

Right Stuf's reputation here on MFC is mixed. In general, they have a vast selection of media, but mediocre customer service. Still, they're often the first place I check out for anime Blu-rays, and I've gotten a number of good deals from them in the past. I suppose it was merely a matter of time until their closure after Crunchyroll bought them. For good or for ill, they will be missed.

It's genuinely sad. Wild to see Crunchyroll go from shady streaming site that stole and reuploaded fansubs without credit to full on industry giant aggressively smashing out it's competitors and leaving the entire scene worse off for its involvement. I'll be throwing my own party to celebrate when/if they do go down.

Left_DreamerIl y a 2 mois#128769763I'm kinda annoyed with Crunchyroll absorbing/overtaking everything in the Manga/Anime scene.
Especially here in Germany with the "Kaze" Mangalabel, after they took over they increased prices and generally kinda mess up

Agreed, it’s like they’re aiming to build a monopoly and be the only ones or at least the strongest in the anime/manga market.
This sucks, not only because of what you and other people have mentioned but because their packaging also sucks from what I’ve seen.
Guess it’s time for most of us to shop elsewhere…

I've only had bad experiences with RS recently, but I've only ever bought like one thing from the CR store during a big sale they did, and they were so overwhelmed by the response to the sale that they had to send out apology emails about delays. Which...doesn't bode well?

Putting that aside though, I'm also really bothered by Sony buying up all of the western anime scene and mushing it all into one brand. Honestly, at this point how long will it be before they buy Sentai and we're basically left with one dubbing company? lol

I would be less annoyed with Crunchyroll absorbing everything if they had a better reputation when it comes to the treatment of their staff and customer service. I guess this is inevitable as long as there is profit to extract from this interest group but I’m never going to be happy about this space becoming more homogenous. Call me an old man yelling at clouds all you want, but I think it’s a really bad thing that so much of the way we (non-JP audience) engage with anime/manga now is subject to the decision-making of an increasingly narrow group of people. If they eat up Discotek I will be wailing, gnashing teeth, rending my garments entwain so loud you’ll be able to hear me across the entire continental US…

Figure ordering from TRSI was a last resort for me as their prices weren't that competitive to begin with, especially the surprise shipping surcharge on the scales that wouldn't appear until time to checkout....gad! I don't understand all the animosity toward CR atm other than anticipation that bigger operations are worse than smaller ones. As far as past service goes from either my experiences from both have ranged from equally good to lackadaisical. CR has been remarkably good to me answering concerns I might have about PO's but they took time to respond as did Rightstuf if I felt I had any issues. I commend Shawne Kleckner building up the business with Robert Ferson and can understand where after 35 years in it he has every right to do something else with his life if he so chooses.

À propos de ce blog

I don't write blog posts here as often as I should, but at least I'm writing at all!

Posts here generally concern figures and other collectables. For reviews, I often like to highlight items which may have gone overlooked, or are otherwise interesting. In general, I strive for high-quality posts above all else.

I also maintain a blog here which is mostly about video games, and sometimes about manga and anime.
