    It's a very interesting article!

It seems that manufacturing costs increased through years. I've chcecked minimum monthly wages in China and they increased a lot - from 690 yuan in 2006 to 2480 this year (more than 4 times!), according to this website. The data may be off since minimum wages are different for each province.

It would be interesting to see how much it relates to figma prices.

BenkokoIl y a 2 mois#80327967Btw you put in the wrong link for the cheapest figma which was Miku, you put the beserk link instead. Great article, I haven't bought myself any figmas due to their high prices, but it's crazy to see the rise in price from when it started
galablueIl y a 2 mois#80327959Fascinating article, really enjoyed it. Would be interested to see how the price increase in figma stacks up against the price increase in nendos, prizes, and scales (respectively). By the way, when you link 2 of the figmas, you accidentally linked the same one twice. Lovely article though.

Oops, fixed the link now! Glad you enjoyed.

I don't think the line is going to die anytime soon, but I could def see them taking a big hit once they start pushing that 10K yen/$100 mark though.
I wonder what GSC themselves want to do with the line, do they want to increase production and get more out there? Because that seems like a risky assumption since I have seen an increasing concern over quality and content that the Figmas come with.

My personal feeling is they're partially throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks, especially with the increase of "one off" SP/EX releases.

For GSC, they don't seem to mind if previously budget lines turn into premium lines. Then they just go ahead and launch something else to fill the space if they want to it seems.

plasticizerIl y a 2 mois#80327337Could be a number of reasons. What most people don't take into account aside from inflation in Japan is the countries where the stuff is produced. It could be that the price to design and make the figures (sculpting, die-making, licensing), the cost of the materials (PVC cost), regulations (QA costs, carbon tax), wages of laborers (painting, packaging), shipping/distribution, marketing costs have all increased, then, the company shifted the cost to the consumers.

Yes, I suspect that manufacturing costs has a good chunk to do with the increase, but don't have any metrics to back that up. There's always some people who want to see things adjusted for inflation, so I provided the line knowing that would probably produce little difference.

Super obviously they have been coming out with higher prices and very frequently. Once they slipped in a few beyond-the-pale overpriced ones (but with enough extras to get away with it) then they released more of those while also scaling back on the extras. Now bare bones ones cost as much as previously “premium” ones. We’re staring down the barrel of a ~$20 increase across the board from say 2 years ago with very few exceptions.
Anything with a Western license like Overwatch and Disney tends to tack on a good $15 for that alone over effectively the same item from an anime. If that $75 Emilia was a Blizzard character, she’d be pushing $90 no question.
