If you're looking it at person, look at the paint job; bootlegs have really crappy paint jobs that are really messy or clumpy, the pose of the figure is off (like they're really leaning), the box construction is really flimsy and thin. Also, the figure has a really strong and chemically odor.

If it's online, are they selling it without a box? Most bootleggers sell it without the box and if they do sell it with the box, note the print job on it like is it blurry, are there company logos on it, and are they missing a text on it.

Also, some sellers would label items as a "China manufactured edition" or "China edition" or something strange like that. Yes, most figures are made in China but labeling it as a "China Edition" is a bit odd. Also, if the seller is from China, it's probably a bootlegger.
