Look what Sideshow did to Psylocke.

Shown at Comic Con a few months ago. I added her to my list.

New Pre-Order image from Sideshow blog with explanation of revised facial sculpt and bs marketing of early preview from Comic Con.

They changed a statue which they displayed at Comic Con that most were happy with. The only complaint seemed to be around the base and why it wasn't a Danger Room setup like the others. Now we get this new version with a changed facial sculpt. People on the other forums are going crazy. I don't think they've ever done this before. Whoever is directing this mess at Sideshow needs to be fired. I'm sure if you added up all the projects I've missed because of Sideshow's hyped cancellations, changed and/or bad paint jobs, and whatever else, they have lost far more than a couple thousands of dollars. And I bet I'm not the only one either.

cfx (Il y a 1 mois) #40037197The Kotobukiya Bishoujo line is very bad about the final product looking different than the prototypes. Sometimes they're very close, sometimes the final looks better, and sometimes it looks worse. There are certain aspects of the prototypes that almost never make it to the final. Ash has a kind of smudgy eyeshadow on the prototype that is missing on the final. The shape of the eyes appears to have changed a bit as well they don't look as wide open. But look at the outfit and the blood stains. On the prototype they're shaded where they really look like a denim shirt where the blood has soaked into it and perhaps dried. The final product has bright red ketchup smeared on a bright blue shirt. Much of the shading on the shirt is gone as well making especially the tattered ripped parts not look so good.
That's not to say the final figure in hand won't look good overall; it probably does and it's easy to pick at details in a picture. But it is kind of frustrating that too often with this particular line of figures they promise you something that they don't really deliver. While that can be all too common with some like Sideshow, it's pretty uncommon with most of the well-known Japanese companies. Some of them come out just about perfect too though; the recent Supergirl did.
One feature that I think is often a standout on them is the hair sculpting as it is here.

I didn't notice some of those changes on Ash. I'm hoping it's just the different lighting. Usually unless it's something major on a Japanese figure, I don't get that upset as it's a low price compared to other company statues and figures. The figures I own weren't released with any paint issues that I know of.

That Racing Miku ITEM #600561 is pretty cute. I don't usually like "tongue-out" figures because I find it never looks right but it's ok here. Hopefully she'll get a support rod because that looks like a real potential leaner.

I suppose it's what you're used to but to me figures that cost $100-200 are expensive and I think that we should get what the companies promise, within reason.

That said, the Koto Bishoujo line is closer to mass production and lower priced, so I get why some things happen. Really I don't mind much things like the simplified painting on Ash's outfit, but I choose what figures to buy largely on what the faces look like, and those get changed far too much in this line, though I've come to know which ones to expect it on; any of the ones that have the heavy eyeshadow with soft edges aren't going to have that in the final figure.

    Edward Scissorhands prototype:

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Kaneel1463020633.jpeg

Final product (and yes, the skin color change is real, not just the picture):

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Maakie1513841314.jpeg

    Harley Quinn prototype:

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/hIE1457402902r1457405872.jpeg

    Final product:

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/wynn_kaurus1484402501.jpeg

Harley still looks good, but I think Edward Scissorhands was a huge disappointment. I nearly always wait until after release to buy these, and I did with her, but I was fooled by some use pictures on this site that photoshopped the eyeshadow back in. :(

Sideshow has pulled that kind of crap so much I'm more surprised when they have a final that actually does look like their prototypes.

I've never paid that much for Japanese figures. I can't remember my most expensive one. Probably something I was too late getting and had to pay more. But we should get what companies show. If not they shouldn't show it. I think XM Studio or Prime 1, I can't remember which, shows prototypes from the factory and usually they actually do better on the released statues. But most of the Kotobukiya ones I've purchased are cheap. Especially on Amazon after they've been out for a while. I didn't get those two you showed so didn't pay them much attention.

But I just remembered the changes to my Kotobukiya Danger Room Psylocke (ITEM #42251). She had nips on the prototype.

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Silver281280148952.jpeg

And I think the paint job could be iffy on some. Also, people received them with broken swords because it is attached and not separate. But back in the day she barely retailed for more than $100 on Amazon which is a steal compared to what you have to pay now for a Kotobukiya Fine Art statue let alone that Psylocke statue. She is still the best Jim Lee Psylocke which is really saying something when Sideshow is up to $500+ for their X-Men statues. And their last Psylocke "Premium Format" had issues with the paint cracking on just about all of them since the factory didn't use sealer.

I think what surprises me the most about Sideshow is that they are still making the same mistakes. Maybe because they think they can. People were talking about how one of the Sideshow people said that collectors or people on forums are only 3% or so of their audience. I don't believe that number is correct. But whatever it is, they think that they can tease, hype, change, come out with a bad paint job, and still have statues sell. In some ways it might be true as that old Psylocke and even Rogue still go for a lot on ebay with all their problems. Or at least they did before the announcement of the new versions.

But if you look at the recent Taarna.

    https://www.sideshowtoy.com/assets/products/300439-taarna/lg/heavy-metal-taarna-premium-format-figure-sideshow-300439-25.jpg

They are supposed to be removing that sculpt line in her hair. Still we have to wait and see. But they have no problems changing stuff in production or after we've seen it. It's just crazy. Perhaps that's why I'm just not interested in that much from them anymore.

Switching to a positive note. The dollar is getting stronger so I might jump on a few figures soon. I don't think I should wait till holiday sales as they might sell out. But if the rate hits 113 Yen, I'm going to get a few figures.

Ugh, I can already see this line of products from GSC being a bad thing for my wallet, considering it looks like you can easily switch clothes between them.

(Still think Miku/Fate/Idolmaster will be worse, but this is a close second.)

Someone on the Statue Forum posted the artist that worked on Psylocke. I saw she did this Bear Rider sculpture. They are releasing it as a small kit. I saw on Instagram that they are considering a larger version as well.

    https://creepytables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/bear_rider.gif

I'm going to put my money towards this instead since Sideshow decided to change Psylocke's original facial sculpture. Bear Rider has kind of a fantasy anime type feel.

    Also this just dropped.

Anyone considering Artgerm's Supergirl from Sideshow should change their mind. Prime 1 Studio just topped Sideshow's version.

    https://scontent-ort2-1.cdninstagram.com/vp/ad887884cba78a57285f4d6d7c168ef0/5C287370/t51.2885-15/e35/40482436_164672591117872_2571516579895988128_n.jpg

Also, I'm in for the team if Prime 1 Studio makes all of them. And going by many of their lines, I don't see why they wouldn't.

She is cute, but there are just some little oddities with the sculpt. Both hands aren't very well done and her feet and ankles look really small in proportion to the rest of her.

She's also on the GSC shop of course:

If wanting EMS shipping she'd be cheaper there since they only charge 2000 yen for that

Apparently Sideshow didn't fix Taarna's hair for production.

    www.youtube.com...

She wasn't a character I should spend $525 on anyway. A bishoujo with her flying creature would be a lot better. Or Sideshow could have made her cheaper and 1/5 scale.

She's supposedly 1/3 scale too. I like Supergirl but not enough for a 1/3 scale Artgerm version. Few characters really need 1/3 scale statues.

I haven't played the new game yet but Weta's new Lara Croft statue sold out quick according to some.

    https://image.ibb.co/mkEcgy/53_D13_DEE_A8_EC_49_AC_A3_C4_9_A2_D1_F456650.jpg

I tend to like the more adventurous Lara. But if the game is good then this might be a good statue to have.

Flare takes forever, and in this case I see she's listed as a SQEX release so it was also however they wanted to schedule; Volks Dollfie Dream dolls of 2B and 9S were just recently revealed and soon up for order as well. All were in conjunction with the recent Nier music concert so I suspect it's all to do with SQEX. Pricing on the regular one seems ok but the DX is kinda outrageous. :/

Everyone probably saw already but Koto had some bishoujo news at the recent comic con; painted and art for new pony girls:
    figurenews.blog...

    and art for others:
    figurenews.blog...

I'm hopeful for that new Catwoman. The old one is one of the figures from back when they didn't do a very good job of making them look like Shunya's art. I also hope this Sakura will be better than the last one and that Karin will be nice. Also I don't know the G.I.Joe characters but I'm happy to see one in an actual military type outfit especially with that being one of Shunya's specialties.

Yeah, I mostly just wanted the DX version for pod, haha. The standard one is fine for me mostly cause I love 2B's design of her dress and the blindfold. Also for that size, it's not crazy Alter pricing.

Pinkie Pie also has some user photos on her page that really highlight her colors, the official photos dont look so good.

I'm sure the pod is why she costs that much. The regular pricing isn't bad, especially for Flare who've generally been on the high end. I think she looks better with the blindfold as well because while the face sculpt is nice I think it doesn't really look that much like her; the sculptor REFLECT did her the same way they do the Shunya figures like the recent Evangelion ones so she kinda looks like Shunya's version of 2B.

I hadn't looked, but yeah Pinkie Pie looks better:
