I'm gonna order from AmiAmi for my first time, and am planning to select DHL since it's the only available shipping in my country. However, I've heard that it's the most expensive kind of shipping, so I'm pretty worried about it. If someone could tell me how much it costed the last time they ordered, they would make me a big favour.
Also, any advice when buying from AmiAmi?
    Thanks in advance! :)

I usually don‘t use DHL, but when I checked the shipping prices I think DHL always started at 5000JPY minimum for me while other options are 2000~5000JPY. Well if you order small things like Nendos In your „ordered list“, it might be cheaper of course.

When buying from a Japanese shop with currency JPY, always make sure to NOT to use the currency converter of Paypal, instead make sure to pay in JPY in the Paypal option, to use the conversion rate of your credit card company, because this saves you most of the time like 10Euro per order, in case of average scale figures.

Also if you can combine it with credit cards like transferwise or other pre paid credit cards with low fee for conversions, you might save even more.

Well, it greatly depends on where you're located and what you're buying. For me, I'm in the US. It's usually a minimum of 1350yen and the price doesn't go up too much if I'm buying some media like books and CDs. My latest order that I have yet to pay for because I've been hoping JP Post would start shipping to the US soon will cost 2170 yen for DHL shipping. In this order there are 3 soy sauce dishes, 1 sticker, 1 rubber strap, 4 acrylic stands, and 2 acrylic keychains.

It's actually cheaper than EMS and only a few hundred yen more expensive than airmail so I'd probably go with this option anyways because I'd get my items in 2 days.

    I hope this helps.

If you're living in Europe, or any other country where import duties must be paid, be careful with using DHL. I have never used DHL myself before, but I have read stories that they charge a lot for custom duties. Maybe it would be wise to enquire with DHL first so you have an idea of the costs they will charge you.

Also, it seems that on July 1 Japan Post will continue SAL service to selected countries. So, maybe your country is one of them. At least, this is what the AmiAmi site says. :)

I ordered a package from Amiami and shipped SAL and the item was of course returned to sender.
Is it possible to cancel this order or will Amiami deny it?

:/ not happy with AmiAmi at the moment. My June order was 7.5k yen for shipping, for two nendos and a CosBaby figure (a small one), and a few keychain plushies and two shirts. They used the 120 box, which is the scale box. The box was full of paper (like half a box full), and the actual merch was only in the corner. It was otherwise paper. :/. And the keychains were just THROWN in.
I think AmiAmi made up for their mistake in the pricing of the CosBaby figure by putting the damn thing in a scale figure box. The figure is half of the size of a nendo box. :(. My shipping should *not* have been 7.5k yen.

So the lesson is, don't trust mistake pricing (the cosbaby figure was 400 yen). They'll screw you in other ways. This is the worst packing job I've seen from them, and is clearly done to make me pay more. They also took 4 extra days to pack it verses my brother's order, who ALSO only had two nendos.

Well, I think it is a bit much to accuse Amiami of basically scamming you. I ordered two of those sale Cosbaby figures (sets actually) and my shipping invoice was fine. I was able to use airmal and the cost was as expected. (I dont see how they would benefit from charging high shipping costs given that these go to JP Post)

I really wish people would stop being so passive aggressive once a store does sth. they dont like.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with AmiAmi, but I'd like to add that I've always had a good experience with them. They always pack things according to their size and I've never had to run down to the post office because of oversized boxes. Maybe the person who packed your items was a bit overwhelmed during that day, or maybe they ran out of boxes, I don't know. This isn't normal practice for AmiAmi, so I'd suggest maybe contacting their customer service to see if there's some way they can reimburse you or something, or at least they're made aware of the not-so stellar job they did this time so they don't repeat it next time.

Whenever I have inklings that something like this might happen, I usually make a request to them beforehand to ensure that they package things in a compact box. When I had a tote bag added to an already existing order, my shipping price somehow jumped up by 1k, so I messaged them and told them to fold the bag instead and ship everything in a smaller box. They happily did so and I got to keep the original shipping price. Next time, if you receive the invoice and see a ridiculous shipping fee, message them first and ask them what's up so they can recheck their packaging. 99% of the time they'll be happy to repack it for you and reduce the shipping cost.

And like indian_summer22 pointed out, they have no incentive to jack up shipping prices as they use Japan Post prices to calculate. So I'm pretty sure it was an honest mistake on their part.

Hi, thanks for the reply. That order eventually got to me. It took maybe a little bit longer than usual, maybe a whole week I guess. But now I have yet another order shipped to me via EMS, shipped from AMIAMI 29th of June and 30th of June it arrived and left TOKYO International Airport according to tracking information. Now it is completely silent.. Two whole weeks now. I am a bit worried :-(

can anyone help me with this situation?

I paid for a $150 pre-own figure (A/B) on amiami and using EMS to ship to my country. The parcel was damaged and the figure box got crashed on the side. I email Amiami but Amiami refused to claim for the insurance and help me out for compensation. they just said "this situation happens all the time". but I clearly paid for EMS which is supposed to have insurance on damaged parcel. This is very unfair, is it not?

I think it's also said somewhere in their FAQ if I'm not mistaken - they're not responsible for damages on the figure's BOX. If the figure itself is fine, then there's no problem. I know some collectors also collect boxes but in that case, I don't think there's anything they can help you with, because it DOES happen all the time. Now if the figure itself is damaged, that's another story - and they can definitely help you with that.

But from a collector’s point of view, the damaged box will indeed lower the value of the item. That is also why amiami’s rating system includes the box condition , too. If Amiami does not care about the box, why A/B item on their site is more expensive than A/C item? And what is the point of having insurance on parcel if I’m not compensated for damaged parcel? Plus EMS is taking 2 weeks to get to me during pandemic so I’m pretty much is paying 5000 yen for the equivalent shipping rate/benefit for SAL unregistered...

    Yep, I wasn't hallucinating: support.amiami....-

"Please note that we are unable to accept responsibility for damage limited to a product's outer packaging."

Unfortunately, it IS part of their rules. As for their justification for this, well, I'm not sure how I can help you with that unfortunately.

Plus, EVERYTHING is slow these days, so AmiAmi shouldn't be the one blamed for your package getting to you slower than usual. Because of the pandemic, there is a lack of flights everywhere, so EMS is definitely a lot, LOT slower. If you want your items to get to you fast and safe, I'd suggest opting for DHL next time until this virus slows down/disappears.

I think my original point isn’t focus on the speed of shipment and more on the insurance. EMS is supposed to be safe and in case of damage, amiami doesn’t have to pay for it but can help out the customers by filing a claim. The way Amiami answered their email is lackluster-ish. They COULD just file a claim for me and everyone wins and go home happy. I don’t think anyone here can defend them for not doing that.

It's not that they don't want to help but actually know that the insurance doesn't cover the outer packaging. The refund isn't handled by them apart from submitting the claim but the carrier and the carrier doesn't refund for damages to the outer box.
