I'm usually wary with these kind of items, but at this point I'm not so sure myself.
The box seems to have the official toei sticker and whatnot, being the only thing making me doubt is the fact that it's shipped from Hong Kong, and I can't find much about this particular item (as in, pictures of the box itself) as the item is not exactly new, any thoughts?

I've found a figure on Ebay that appears to have the proper Toei Animation sticker and the box looks right. But, I'm always skeptical of Ebay and there's not many pictures of the official figure floating around to compare the listing too. If anybody is willing to help I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks!!

There's about 2-3 China-based eBay sellers that sell these discontinued Monster Hunter figures I learned of earlier this year. The dragons, not the characters btw.

Based on their photos, they look like bootlegs because the paint used doesn't colour-match prototype/official photos very well. I know discolouration in photos are to be expected, but there are very clear spots where it is more than just a few shades off.

What's really shady is that they all list them without original boxes.... Are they just reproducing casts? I'm suspicious, so I ask.

I spoke personally with two of them and they have similar stories: Quality control said No to certain ones because of poorly-applied paintjobs, they get discarded, and they sell them to these sellers. Notice I didn't say "sold"? We're talking discontinued stuff, here. They shouldn't be able to get these freshly made. That's kinda shady, but I wasn't going to pay $600 for a Gore Magala, so I'm offered a chance at one for about $150, I'll take a chance. It's hard to screw up paint-matching a black base colour anyway.

    Bring it home.

Some tattered ends of its wings don't look like the ones seen in other MFC users' photos. The paint on the underside of the wings are thickly applied, they're flat and bright, like a 7-y.o tried to paint-match with only basic hues.

Is it a bootleg? It could be. But most of the sculpt is pretty spot on; so it's hard to say. But the fact that they have re-done their item description to indicate that buying into the listing equates to "placing an order", so it sounds an awful lot like they've got a mold and are reproducing it per order, and having some amateur paint it.

But it's a pretty good bootleg IMO. I'd like to repaint it at some point in time.

Can't speak for the other figures though.

I've heard of bootleg sellers claiming they're selling factory seconds, as this is a legal grey area, instead of bootlegging, which is most definitely illegal. I wouldn't believe anything they have to say. They're bootlegs and they're not sending the box, either because there isn't one, or to save on shipping costs.

The 'factory seconds' thing is VERY common in the Disney pin market, even if the pins have defects that wouldn't be manufacturing defects >.> Yes a lot of them are reproductions, even if the seller claims otherwise.

Good to know. I've been out of the collecting circle for a while.

This is a pretty damn good bootleg I have in that case.

This club is an awesome idea!

Personally, I did my first order of a figure on eBay yesterday. I bought a figure from Luv-Japan (the 1/6 scale PVC figurine of Kasumi by Katayama Hiroki). I hope this won't be a bootleg because I wish to possess this figure since my 14 years old.

Not in question anymore. I've received them and can confirm that all five figures that I bought from him are terrible fakes. Not even the good fakes.

I´m really not sure about this one:

Name of Seller or ID: infin8-games
    Seller's Store Link: infin8-games
Item in Question: Final Fantasy X-2 1/6 Scale Kotobukiya Yuna ArtFX Soft Vinyl Statue

The shop looks ok. But the pictures of the figure are strange. The first three seems to be ok, but then they look like a total different figure, especially the face.

It' could possibly be the lighting that makes it look deffrient but for that price, you would be better off buying it off this site. At the moment there is one on sale for half the asking price of that auction.

He is litteraly reproducing designs and packagings but he admits to selling bootleg version of the figures. Looks like good enough quality but still fake figures.
